Name?
editWhy is the name given as "Minneapolis/St. Paul" when the official name of the twin cities is "Minneapolis–Saint Paul"? Also the name of the earlier submarine USS Minneapolis–Saint Paul (SSN-708) followed the official spelling. --2003:8E:6C10:D102:6566:9A1:17C7:1F6C (talk) 16:14, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Testbed for Gearbox Fix
editRecent articles, e.g., https://www.forbes.com/sites/craighooper/2021/06/07/navy-targets-early-fy-2022-for-first--freedom-class-littoral-combat-ship-fix/?sh=4bc1c7964148, indicate that a fix to the gearbox issues that have stopped the delivery of new Freedom class ships, including USS Minneapolis-St Paul, will likely be available to allow resumption of deliveries during the first half of FY-2022 (October 2021 - March 2022). Some of these articles, like the above Forbes piece, indicate that Minneapolis-St Paul itself "is likely set to be the test and trial vessel" for the modifications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:801:4280:a710:4984:8db5:7c1f:c88 (talk) 21:31, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, per WP:RSN, articles from forbes.com are not considered as a reliable source, unless the article was written by "staff", as opposed to "contributor", or the article was also published in their print edition, which should be noted at the top of the article. Neither seems to the case here. - wolf 01:23, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
- It doesn't bother us and we're not trying to edit your little out-of-date article, just posting a comment. There are other references out there that basically say the same thing - USNI, etc. - but we'll you wiki "experts" figure it out — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:801:4280:A710:2C0A:E2A7:7FC5:E12 (talk) 16:36, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

- As we previously noted above, Minneapolis-Saint Paul is being used to test the interim fix for the defective Freedom-class combining gear. The repairs to the combining gear have been completed and the ship is now being put back together. She and sister ship Cooperstown will be tested on the Great Lakes to assess the effectiveness of the repairs with the goal of both ships then being able to head out to sea before the winter freeze. All this is reported in this article from USNI (presumably consisdered unreliable by wiki standards as was the above story projecting this series events that we referenced a couple months ago): https://news.usni.org/2021/08/02/navy-will-test-freedom-class-lcs-gear-fix-next-month-years-before-repair-reaches-rest-of-fleet? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:801:4280:a710:e9d8:8c8f:8104:bdcd (talk) 22:15, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- USNI is considered a reliable source and in fact is cited quite often on Wikipedia. Hope this helps. - wolf 23:42, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

New Tentative Commissioning Date
editAccording to an August 2021 story posted on the KAAL (a local TV station in Rochester MN) website, the chairman of the ship's commmissioning committee stated that a May 2022 commissioning is being anticipated. A subsequent late October 2021 story posted on the WDIO (a local TV station in Duluth MN where the commissioning ceremony will be held) indicated that detailed planning for the ceremony is well underway, including a site visit by U.S. Navy and commissioning committee staff to the pier where the ceremony will be held.
