A strange coincidence

edit

I did not realize you had started this page just a few hours before I updated it. I have a question: DANFS lists the name of the ship "Andrew Jackson" and not simply "Jackson." What record are you using to get the name "Jackson" and not "Andrew Jackson?" Wikited (talk) 01:37, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's funny how those things happen--when two people are working on the same article. I am using the website of the United States Coast Guard, as indicated in the reference section as the source. All these cutters seem to be called by one name, Ingham, etc. but some are also referred to in various publications by both first and last name of the the person for whom the ship was named.Argos'Dad 04:46, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response. I don't know if you use DANFS as one of your sources:

which might be useful in obtaining history on early cutters. I've run across a few in the DANFS listing and didn't know what to do with them, except now I know they are USRC ships, not USS. If you look in DANFS, you will probably have to look under the long name, like "Andrew Jackson" rather than "Jackson." As I recall, DANFS lists some cutters under "Jefferson" which might need to be written up.Wikited (talk) 14:23, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
