Why is it listed under a nickname?
editWhy is this law listed under a nickname? Why isn't it listed as its correct name. As an example of what SHOULD be, Obamacare links to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The same thing should be done here. 24.172.43.163 (talk) 03:41, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
- Because if we titled it the "Second Conscription Act," this would raise two problems. First, the article would only be about one portion of that law—the part commonly referred to as the so-called (to contemporaries, as well as historians) "Twenty Negro Law"—rather than the entire act; Second, most historians and students of the war search for (and recognize) this particular subject by this title. Of course the second objection could be dealt with via a simple redirect, but the first would require rewriting and expanding the article. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the title remaining as it is now, especially since the opening sentence makes it clear that this law is part of a larger act, and gives the full official title of said act. You DO raise a valid objection, however, and I have endeavored to address that within the context of this approach by bolding the official act name, as well. - Ecjmartin (talk) 00:21, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
