Oil in Place and reserves

edit

I remember that the average ratio for tonnes to barrels is 1 to 7.3. 1.1 billion barrels in place and 210.9 million tonnes reserves? 210.9 million tonnes are more than 1.1 billion barrels. I think there are 1.1 billion TONNES oil in place, which would be around 8 billion barrels of which ~1.54 billion barrels are recoverable with current technology and oil price. I think since it is a arctic field the recovery factor which would be less than 20% in my scenario would be realistic. I think 30-40% is usual at new fields with the newest technology being used.

In the German article about the basin I added some production figures (2004 - 2009) from LUKOil, they show that LUKOil had 2009 a production of almost 160 million barrels in the basin, making the above numbers more realistic, production almost doubled between 2004 and 2009 and production is still on the rise... -- Kilon22 (talk) 12:52, 15 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

There was a mistake — 1.1 billion barrels are estimated reserves not oil in place. Conversion rate 7.3 is a usual rate for the light crude, but does not applies for the oil from these Arctic fields due to different viscosity.
