Per the German wiki's treatment of the Upper Yangtze, (a) the Murusu, Murussu, Mur-ussu &c. was never this stretch of the Upper Yangtze but its headwaters when the Garqu was considered to be the principal stream, becoming the Tongtian or other names after its confluence with the Dangqu.

Regardless, (b) it's probably worth saying that the name has been (erroneously) derived from мөрөн (mörön, "river"). I can find the Cyrillic forms Мур and Муруй for the winding bit but (c) not the actual Mongolian script versions and (d) the Bolor Dictionary lists the actual form of the adjective "winding" as мурий instead. Ус is the modern form of Classical Mongolian Усу, whose script form was ᠤᠰᠤ. It's "water" generally, not "stream" precisely. — LlywelynII 14:01, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
