Tom York, WBRC-TV, Birmingham, is not the Tom York, singer, who is subject of a different Wikipedia page. WBRC-TV personality "Tom York" worked for Joe Van Sandt, WJOI, Florence, Alabama in 1955 and studied at Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama). At the time, Judd Phillips, Sam Phillips' brother, worked along side York in station middle management. Paul Shannon was Chief Engineer. In 1955, WJOI was co-owned by the Anderson family, founders of Books a Million (BAM) and other publishing/distribution companies in Birmingham, Knoxville, and Florence.
Judd and Sam Phillips assisted York his first major-market radio/tv position with WREC Radio and Television, Memphis, before York moved on to his jobs in Birmingham. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:7C0:8103:5CBF:C5A8:486B:1101:66EC (talk) 12:55, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
