Since this merge was proposed Temporary_residency has been moved. Nevertheless there is no consensus in the limited discussion to merge this page (which remains as having multiple issues). The result is do not merge Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 06:09, 24 February 2017 (UTC)(non-admin closure)

• Keep Separate: Temporary foreign worker program is a specific program, with specific issues and laws. I don't think it makes sens to merge it with the general article about Temporary_residency in Canada. --Natkeeran (talk) 04:02, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
• Oppose merge - I am very familiar with Canadian immigration legislation, especially surrounding the TFWP, work and study permits, temporary resident visas, temporary resident permits, Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee, and Permanent Residency. "Temporary residency" refers to the legal status of non-Canadian nationals. The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is an program under Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC or Employment and Social Development) which is a branch of Service Canada. The TFWP has 6 Temporary Foreign Worker Units or centres in Canada and is the branch of the immigration process that issues Labour Market Impact Assessments (formerly Labour Market Opinions). This is usually a mandatory prerequisite to obtaining legal status in Canada as a temporary foreign worker (and temporary resident). I would not recommend merging these two documents. While they are related, they are not the same thing. I will note the articles are both exceptionally out of date, and also contain some information that at 'no point in time' has been correct. The likely reason the TWFP reads more like a newspaper is because it has been the subject of national headlines over controversies in the fast food industry as well as agriculture. On June 20, 2014, new legislation radically changed the TFWP. There have been additional legislative changes in July and August to the program and there will likely be more changes to come in the future. Mkdw^talk 06:14, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

• Retitle: The information sources clearly need merging, and some basic information needs to be on both pages. But I'd say that each of the four different types of Temporary Residency deserve their own page; any legal status held by hundreds of thousands of people, which strongly affects their lives, is notable. Apart from descriptions and history, the articles could also hold stats (how many people in each category? what do they do? how long do they stay? how do people leave each temporary residency status? do they become permanent residents? leave the country?), or statements that the information is not collected. The Temporary foreign worker program in Canada article could be turned into a "Criticism of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program in Canada" article quite easily, but for it to be reasonably comprehensive it needs more information on allegations of illegal treatment of TFW employees, which has also been widely reported in Canada. POV concerns

I have tagged this article as having WP:POV concerns because of the overabundance of controversies in this article. Yes, it is appropriate to cover controversial issues; but this article dedicates far too much space to it; it is mainly an article about the program's controversies, rather than a neutral descriptive article about the program. More information should be added about the program itself with the final result being something similar to the H-1B visa article. As this article is written now it is basically propaganda. -- Millionsandbillions (talk) 19:26, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
