The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[?]
    • Beefed up the intro by another paragraph.
  • See if possible if there is a free use image that can go on the top right corner of this article.[?]
    • This is an article about a film and the only images available are fair-use images.
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (numbers), there should be a non-breaking space -   between a number and the unit of measurement. For example, instead of 35 mm, use 35 mm, which when you are editing the page, should look like: 35 mm.[?]
    • Pesky no-break spaces.
  • Per Wikipedia:Context and Wikipedia:Build the web, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006.[?]
    • Well okay then.
  • Avoid using contractions like: can't, wouldn't.
    • Shouldn't use contractions.
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

Good Article Nomination

edit

I am thrilled to award this article Good Article status, as a result of its assesment to the Good Article criteria located at WP:GA?. However, I have some advice for improvement:

  • The #Track listing section reads very messily and may benefit from some WP:GNOMEing, such as bolding the title of the track, and perhaps italicising the name of the singer/performer.

Otherwise, congratulations to the lead editors and keep up the good work!

Kind regards,
Anthonycfc [TC] 14:03, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! The track listing was also commented on in the peer review, and I agree it doesn't look great. It uses the conventions from WP:ALBUM, but perhaps they don't work too well when mixed with other article formats. I'll try some things to make it look better. — WiseKwai 19:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alternative ending

edit

Anyone know what's the alternative ending? Thanks BlueShirts 09:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Miramax changed it so nobody dies. — WiseKwai 14:46, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I like the miramax ending, the original is too sad. Did miramax film a whole new ending or did they just cut the last scene? BlueShirts 00:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You talk like you've actually seen the Miramax version, which I thought was impossible because it was never released. Have you seen Tears of the Black Tiger? I'm assuming that Miramax simply edited the film, probably ending it before the main characters die. The move to change the ending was widely criticized as insensitive to the director's original vision, as were Miramax's changes to other Asian films. Still, there are folks, like yourself, who might prefer a happy ending, or, just out of perverse curiosity want to see what Miramax did. — WiseKwai 04:32, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
No I haven't seen the miramax version, but I like a happy ending. BlueShirts 04:38, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Release in the US

edit

The release dates in the US in the first paragraph are listed as January 2007 to April 2007, then later on it is shown as Jan 07 to March 07, any idea how long it was released for?69.113.127.175 16:26, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, the ref#38 is broken, I don't know where it pointed to originally, can someone fix it?69.113.127.175 16:26, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up on the conflicting dates. It was still playing in April. I'll try to access Archive.org and restore a link to the Kaiju Shakedown reference. — WiseKwai 17:37, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA Reassessment

edit
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Tears of the Black Tiger/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force, all old good articles are being re-reviewed to ensure that they meet current good article criteria (as detailed at WP:WIAGA.) I have determined that this one, while good, needs some additional work to remain a good article, outlined below:

  • The lead is pretty close to complete, but does not really discuss much about the film's production (thus not adequately summarizing the article). (WP:LEAD)
  • A huge issue is that there are many, many quasi-paragraphs that aren't true paragraphs (by definition, needs to have at least three sentences). All these groupings need to be folded together, cut entirely, or expanded.
  • The plot needs to be cut down; right now it rambles and is overly detailed.
  • Unsourced statements:
    • "The production designs reflects traditional aspects of Thai culture. For example, the first gun battle between Mahesuan and Dum is set on what is obviously a sound stage with a painted backdrop, a setting that is similar to likay, a Thai form of folk opera."
    • "There are experienced actors in the cast as well, including Sombat Metanee and Naiyana Sheewanun, who worked in the era of Thai filmmaking that Wisit was trying to recreate."
    • "There is also "Mercy," composed by 1940s Thai bandleader and jazz violinist Eua Sunthornsanan, which features whimsical fiddle playing and whistling. However, the lyrics to the song, written by Leud Prasomsap, offer a contrast to the mood evoked by the jaunty tune:"
  • File:Tears5.jpg and File:Fahtalaijonesoundtrackcover.jpg: what makes these non-free images meet WP:NFCC?

I am putting the article on hold for one week pending improvements. Please appraise me of progress on this space. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 23:24, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

As no progress has gone into addressing the above, I am boldy delisting now. The article can be renominated at any time through WP:GAN. If you have questions, direct them to my talk page. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 14:30, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
