SvetlahorskSvietlahоrsk – According to the Instruction on Latin Transliteration of Geographical Names of the Republic of Belarus, Decree of the State Committee on Land Resources, Surveying and Cartography of the Republic of Belarus dated 23.11.2000 No. 15 recommended for use by the Working Group on Romanization Systems of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) — http://unstats.un.org/unsd/geoinfo/9th-uncsgn-docs/e-conf-98-crp-21.pdf 178.127.19.33 (talk) 19:52, 3 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment can you should the suggested name is the common name in English? Or that this town is not well known enough to have a common English spelling? 65.94.77.207 (talk) 04:50, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • In the USSR, the practice of transliteration of names, usually with the Russian language (Svetlogorsk). Now in Belarus approved a Belarusian transliteration (Svietlahorsk). The letters ie transmit in English soft sound, as in fact sounds the name. (Compare: Brest - hard sound e.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.123.174.110 (talk) 08:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Move to latin-only name

edit

The current article name ("Svietlahоrsk", https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Svietlah%D0%BErsk ) is misuse of cyrillic "о". Latin "o" should be used instead: ("Svietlahorsk", https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Svietlahorsk ). Please move the page (over the existing redirect). Note: this is not related to transliteration rules mentioned above, just typo as the letters look the same. Ankry (talk) 06:44, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

– Per WP:BELARUSIANNAMES. It should be "Svyetlahorsk" rather than "Svietlahorsk" according to BGN/PCGN romanization. Mellk (talk) 08:17, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
