editI am a biology research using genetic screens to study the red light signaling pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana and I have recently created this page. Suppressor mutations have been a large part of how we map and locate genes that participte in the process we are studying. I was suprised to see that there was no content regarding this topic on Wikipedia. Upon creating/contributing to this page I have kept the information and content relatively simple but there are still areas that can be further developed. One suggestion is to have some images corresponding to frameshift mutations and how they are suppressed. I will try to add an image in the near future but I wanted to get some talk going prior to doing so.Zebrabronco (talk) 16:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
The contents of the Revertant page were merged into Suppressor mutation. For the contribution history and old versions of the redirected page, please see its history; for the discussion at that location, see its talk page. |
History
editLots of genetics books mention suppressors (suppressor mutations), such as "Introduction to genetic analysis" and other similar books. The page currently gives a good overview (could be somewhat longer), but I think what is missing is a historic overview. Nothing too overly long but something like the folks who went through early genetic dissection. Evidently the T4 phage, Sydney Benzer (or Semour, I never remember the name... I might even confused it with Brenner, sorry) was very important, also Acridin Orange and work by Francis Crick and others. It would be useful if the main article could mention at the least a few of these, in particular the early history parts (later history is on-going as we can see). 2A02:8388:1641:8380:15C2:A3F1:9A28:71D9 (talk) 20:54, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
