Review
editHi there. I'll be happy to take this review. I was just in Russia a few weeks ago and bought a tiny Lenin head statue for my desk. Why not? Anyways, just by looking at the article I can tell it is ripe for promotion. My review will consist of two parts; in part 1, I will post any grammatical suggestions for each section; in part 2, I will look at sources individually to make sure they support the text correctly, as well as looking for close paraphrasing issues and if sources are reliable. Look forward to reading this! Nice job here. MX (✉ • ✎) 13:18, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
Commission and construction
edit- (equivalent to $190,000 in 2017) – change amount to US$190,000, per MOS:CURRENCY. I think the Kč format is correct.
Sale and move to Seattle
edit- an English teacher in Poprad originally from – unlink Poprad per WP:OVERLINK.
- US$13,000 (equivalent to $20,000 in 2017). – You can remove the "US" now per MOS:CURRENCY since we already know it is US dollars. I believe that is the interpretation of the policy, but if you want to keep the format of US$Amount and then $Amount for every section, I'm OK with that too. I'm also OK if you keep US$Amount for every mention.
- and asked the City Council vote on the sale – "... to vote on the sale"
- asked the Slovak Ministry of Culture for its blessing – link Ministry of Culture (Slovakia).
- ultimately cost US$40,000 (equivalent to $70,000 in 2017) – read above for instructions on currency.
- hold the sculpture in trust until a buyer is found – "... was found"
- was US$250,000, up from a 1996 price of US$150,000 (equivalent to $230,000 in 2017). – Ditto.
Fremont curiosity
edit- statue can not help but remind us – Pardon if I'm incorrect. Should it be "cannot"?
- monument to Lenin there" and warning that "one day [the residents of Seattle] [would] – "... and warned ..."
- of a historical villain that has blood on his hands. – This sounds encyclopedic. Maybe change to a better tone, like suggesting that he was viewed as an oppressor by his critics or something like that.
Sources
edit- Watson, Emmett (September 12, 1993). "No capitalist, Lenin isn't for sale; but you can try to rent him". The Seattle Times. p. B2. – Found the source online. Please add it.
- The statue was taken down following the Velvet Revolution of 1989. – In the first section, it mentions that Venkov's work was installed shortly before the fall of Czechoslovak communism during the 1989 Velvet Revolution. There is no mention of being "taken down" following the Velvet Revolution. Though technically true, I'm worried some might view it as WP:SYNTHESIS. I would recommend rephrasing, but I'll leave it up to you.
- No copyright violations came up in our detector.
GA Review discussion
edit- Doing... Thanks for the review! I will focus on this over the weekend. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:10, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- No problem. Talk to you then. MX (✉ • ✎) 18:18, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Almost done. I think I've addressed all the issues. I did a couple rewrites, dealing with the statue having been "taken down" after 1993 in the lead, and the Lithuanian envoy's quote. I'll go over it a gain with a close eye to see if I missed anything. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:46, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Dennis Bratland: I went through the changes you made and believe this article is ready for promotion as it stands. Congratulations! MX (✉ • ✎) 18:32, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
