Stand Off or Standoff
editGoogle is literally 50-50 as to whether it's one word or two. Does anyone have an authoritative source for how the name is spelled? 136.159.160.5 (talk) 18:32, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- I have never seen the two words compounded in relation to this specific community, though I don't question your observation. Stand Off per Kainai Blood Tribe, CGNDB (as sourced by Alberta Tourism and Culture which should be the authorititive source), StatCan, widespread Province of Alberta mapping (like the Alberta official road map series), etc. Looks like there is a nearby Standoff Fort, and a Hutterite colony using as a compounded word, and these inconsistencies may be partially behind what has led to the emergence of a 50/50 appearance. The inconsistency in names of nearby places and/or geographic features is not uncommon in Alberta. There is Fort McKay and Fort Mackay in northeast Alberta, as well as Horse Hill and Horsehills within northeast Edmonton. Hwy43 (talk) 11:20, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
