Is sport in QLD only about professional teams ?

edit

Look at the other sport related regional articles. They give rundowns on each of the sports including major and minor leagues and participation figures with links to their summary articles. I think this page focuses only on stadiums and professional teams and needs a major re-write. --Spewmaster (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some sort of summary or overview is needed

edit

I think this article would benefit from a bit of an overview. It should give a general overview about sport in Queensland (QLD). As it is, you must read everything to get a general picture. I also think a summary should be added to the sections where there is just a link (like Australian Rules Football for example). Here is the Sports in New South Wales page, which i think is a better article.--Boy.pockets (talk) 04:54, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are correct, the article needs a lot of work and any prose which expands the article should be supported by references. - Shiftchange (talk) 05:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Missing teams

edit

I'm lazy and may do this later but:

  • Breakers and Barracudas (Water polo)
  • Scorchers (Field hockey W)
  • Fire (Cricket W)

Plus possibly more. Research on these teams would be nice. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 13:10, 17 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

"most popular" sports in the lede - should we drop this

edit

The lede lists the "most popular" sports citing this (see page 26 for the data). First, this is 2005-6 data, so not exactly up to date. Also, it is not a list of organised sports but rather a list of "sports and physical recreation activities" including walking, aerobics, etc. It makes no clear distinction whether any sport is played in an "organised" way or not. I presume someone playing cricket in their backyard would be included under "cricket (outdoor)" along with someone playing in a Test match. And all that cycling (very popular); is it people riding a bike to work or competing? So I am not sure what this data really tells us about the popularity of playing in organised sport (as the lede implies). I propose we dump this "most popular" data (unless someone has more recent data that makes the distinction between organised sport) from the lede. And allow the sections on different sports below to include data about their sport without making comparisons. I imagine most sports collect data in different ways making it difficult to compare. Yes. Drop it. "Most popular" is an ill-defined term, mostly used by people trying to prove that their particular sport/activity is better than others. Without clear and formal definition it serves no purpose. HiLo48 (talk) 00:20, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
