Content on page
editThe author of this page has not researched this page very well, it speaks more like a fan site then a wikipedia entry. Also there is no clear delineation between the book and the TV show. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darakat (talk contribs) .
- The content of the page is totally accurate concerning the television series, and does not read like a 'fan site'. Accuracy does not equate to 'fandom'. I have seen the television series — and I have also read the two books about the series (which are also accurate). As both the television series and the books have the same authors, and because both the television series and books are very similar to each other, it is extremely difficult to delineate between the book and the television series as you seem to be demanding.
- Another point — there are more than one author of the article — so who exactly are you singling out for criticism?
- Also, you are supposed to sign your comments on the talk page. Figaro 14:57, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- 1. "An interesting note is that many of the people from Riana's world speak in an almost Russian accent, with their names sounding vaguely Russian. This is because most of the scenes from the alternate universe were in fact filmed on location in Poland and featured Polish actors."
- - That just sounds silly they sound russian because they're form Poland? The article should describe the accent as european, or even the region of europe poland is in.
- 1. "An interesting note is that many of the people from Riana's world speak in an almost Russian accent, with their names sounding vaguely Russian. This is because most of the scenes from the alternate universe were in fact filmed on location in Poland and featured Polish actors."
- 2. "While at the camp, Paul Reynolds accidentally moves through a doorway between our universe and a parallel universe. This other world is inhabited by a more hierarchic and technologically different society, ruled by a group of people known as Spellbinders. Paul meets a girl there named Riana, and they become friends."
- - It's hierarchical not hierarchic.

- 3. "The Spellbinders have discovered the power to create and manipulate static electricity. They fly in gigantic copper-coloured machines that utilise large rotating orange crystals, presumably creating some form of magnetic levitation. As with all rulers, the Spellbinders often use their power for good, but some abuse this power and use their discoveries for malevolence. "
- - Here the article needs to explain the crystals are power-stones not crystals, a distinct difference the show makes a point of.

- 4. "Having been brought up by strict parents, Katrina is academically smart at school but had tendencies of naivete"
- - Examples? Evidence for this?
- 4. "Having been brought up by strict parents, Katrina is academically smart at school but had tendencies of naivete"
- 5. "When she meets Paul at the castle and learns about fireworks, she blackmails Paul into giving her the secret of gunpowder, by holding the life of Riana and Riana's family over their heads"
- - Incorrect. She threatened t keep him in the spellbinders aland forever and threatened the family to get the power-suit.
- 5. "When she meets Paul at the castle and learns about fireworks, she blackmails Paul into giving her the secret of gunpowder, by holding the life of Riana and Riana's family over their heads"
- 6. Under Chistine: "She is either allergic to shellfish, or just has a bad reaction to it, as she is sick for the latter half of the series."
- - How is this backed up? Her line is "the seafood pizza was yuk, cna we have pepperoni next time?" there is no evidence she had a reaction to the shellfish. Also note she faked being sick once or twice. Is this from the book? If it is then it needs to be said. The only evidence is that she doesn't like fish, not shellfish there is no clear evidence in the TV series to say she was sick from eating anything.
- 6. Under Chistine: "She is either allergic to shellfish, or just has a bad reaction to it, as she is sick for the latter half of the series."
- 7. The differences between the TV show and the Books need to be made clear, a "they are similar enough it doesn't matter" is not a good enough excuse for not researching it or if they are so similar why isn't it stated?
- 8. The page is quite large, can it be broken down into several separate pages? I believe there is enough information for at least 3 if not more.
- 9. "The Spellbinders are beset with internal conflict due to the deterioration of their technology. Because there are only a limited number of power suits and flying ships still in operation, only a select few can be Spellbinders at any given time. Disputes are settled by combat in which Spellbinders fire power bolts at each other. "
- - There is only evidence in the TV series that a dispute is settled in this way when a Spellbinders honor is challenged, in fact the Summoners state that there hasn't been a spellbinder duel in decades. --Darakat 10:06, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

NPOV dispute
editThe authors point of view on this page is clear, there is no neutrality towards the different characters in Spellbinder nor the respective actors playing them. There is a clear "like" and "dislike" of certain characters and a clear bias towards the "good" characters as portrayed in the book and TV show. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darakat (talk contribs) .
- What exactly do you mean by 'no neutrality', with regard to the description of the characters? The descriptions given (by other people — not by myself) are completely accurate — there is definitely no POV bias shown towards the characters by the authors who wrote the descriptions for the article.
- Also, exactly what do you mean by 'no neutrality', with regard to the actors portraying the characters? You did not make this criticism clear. Figaro 15:04, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- 1. "One such malevolent Spellbinder is Ashka. She often gets away without her evil nature being discovered. Common people are often "banished" for their misdeeds, and sometimes spellbinders are banished also if they are proven to have done wrong."
- - Evil? Thats not a very good description of her character in any way at all, "Evil" is a Point of View not a pure statement. She may be malevolent but she can't be described as evil.
- 1. "One such malevolent Spellbinder is Ashka. She often gets away without her evil nature being discovered. Common people are often "banished" for their misdeeds, and sometimes spellbinders are banished also if they are proven to have done wrong."
- 2. "normal life"
- - This is not a NPOV, what is a "normal" life? How can Paul an Unhappy teenager whose mother has died be defined as "Normal"?
- 2. "normal life"
- 3. "Ashka is ruthless, intimidating and can be two-faced at times. She has the ability to create lies on the spot, but overuses her power suit. This leads to her downfall."
- - Poorly worded and biased. These sentences are very bad in the way they have been written, they speak of many parts of the personality of Ashka in a single sentence which isn't a very good way to write the sentence. There is a perceived bias POV in this paragraph it only describes Ashka in a putting-down kind of way, it is obvious form the way it is written we are not meant to like her good qualities (which she has). The sencond sentance should also be either "and she overuses her powersuit" or ". However she overuses her powersuit" not but.
- 3. "Ashka is ruthless, intimidating and can be two-faced at times. She has the ability to create lies on the spot, but overuses her power suit. This leads to her downfall."
- 4. "Ashka's apprentice, the son of the Clayhill Summoner and Ashka's somewhat weird sidekick, Gryvon is somewhat sycophantic and follows Ashka's orders to the full"
- - "Somewhat weird" and "somewhat sycophantic" are not good descriptions and are not NPOV see Ashka.
- 4. "Ashka's apprentice, the son of the Clayhill Summoner and Ashka's somewhat weird sidekick, Gryvon is somewhat sycophantic and follows Ashka's orders to the full"
- 5. "There is some degree of nepotism involved in the process though, as Gryvon is clearly only chosen to be an apprentice because his father is the village summoner"
- - Not a NPOV, there is no evidence of this. Darakat 10:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- 5. "There is some degree of nepotism involved in the process though, as Gryvon is clearly only chosen to be an apprentice because his father is the village summoner"
While I understand your concerns there can be no escaping the fact that these are "the bad guys" and therefore naturally have some negative qualities, for example Ashka self evidently is ruthless and twofaced. However it's probably best to stick to verifiable facts, that Gryvon was made an apprentice simply because of who his father is, is not a fact although it is more than likely.--Teletran 16:32, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Book covers?
editIs it really nesacary to have all the book covers across the page? Pazuzu567 06:12, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- The photos are actually "down" the right-hand side of the page - not across the page. Also the word you intended is actually spelled "necessary" (not the way you spelt it).
- Anyway, half of the original 4 book cover images have now been removed from the page — so your wish has been granted, with only 2 book cover images remaining. Figaro 17:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thankyou Mr. English teacher, sir. >_> Pazuzu567 03:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Why the Australian - Polish Collaboration?
editHow did this collaboration occur? It seems a bit random! When I watched it as a child I would never have guessed that it was semi produced in Poland! Everytime (talk) 23:57, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
- Why not? International Collobarations on (esp. children's) television shows aren't that uncommon as far as I am aware. It allows sharing of acting talent, studios and locations while reducing production costs (and avoiding some red tape in getting permission to shoot overseas) for the single studios.--ZayZayEM (talk) 04:37, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Was any government funding provided from either government? - 202.76.163.105 (talk) 23:08, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Additional Creator
editStrange Constellations: A History of Australian Science Fiction, also lists Jill Wayment as a creator/writer of the series along with the other two creators listed. I am uncertain if she was involved in the novelization though which is the only place where their names are mentioned in the WP article. I will pay close attention to the credits next time I watch the series to determine her role. Abacusbox (talk) 07:46, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
