editShould not the 1992 Olympics count for the USSR also since the Unified Team was the former USSR?
- First, there already was no Soviet Union as a country. Second, Unified Team had the separate IOC country code - EUN, while USSR had URS code. That's why I think, that 1992 Olympics should not count for the USSR. Cmapm
But the Unified Team is essentially the USSR. They are basically the same team under a different name. Many athletes who competed as part of the Soviet Union in 1988 were back in 1992 under a different name. So, I think, to be objective we are ought to at least mentioned that here even if we do not include them on the table.

Red Games?
editDidn't the Soviets have their own rival games to the Olympics? I can't find anything on that subject? I did I just imagine it? 198.161.53.81 23:00, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:USSR NOC.gif
editImage:USSR NOC.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Rank by Total medals - unfair and should be left as of 1991
editI think that the current indicator in the lower-right-hand corner of both tables (Summer and Winter Games), which gives the CURRENT rank of the USSR by the TOTAL number of medals won in any Olympics is unfair. It is unreasonable to have it in its present form because the number will always increase (the USSR will appear as always falling in rank), since the USSR does not exist for almost 20 years already, and consequently has not won any new medals since then. In my opinion, the indicator should account for rank as of December 26, 1991, the date when the country officially ceased to exist (count all medals for all countries for all Summer Olympic Games up to and including 1988, but not including 1992, and the same for Winter Olympics. 138.89.187.152 (talk) 03:49, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Many countries ceased to exist since the inception of the modern Olympics but their medal haul is implemented in the modern rankings. There'll be no exception for the Soviets. Cskamoscow100 (talk) 4:16, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
