Small Updates needed to basic information.

edit

Given Skrillex's recent production of Trap music with his remix of Chase & Status' International and his "Goin' Hard" remix of Birdy Nam Nam's track Goin' In, it seems befitting that Trap be added to his list of genres. Also his collaboration group with Diplo "Jack U" should be added to the list of associated acts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.6.120.44 (talk) 00:22, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Goin' Hard" is drum and bass, and the "International" remix is by no means trap. 808s and hi hat rolls in a song don't automatically make it trap and Skrillex is certainly not associated with the genre (although OWSLA have released trap). Jack U has been dismissed in interviews and apparently it's just used for their b2b DJ sets. Not worth adding because it's not a real act at the moment. DJUnBalanced (talk) 17:09, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

%Goin' Hard" is not drum and bass, it is Trap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evan Kavanagh (talkcontribs) 23:26, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

That song is not Trap music by any definition I am aware of. I've updated the page to say "EDM trap" to clarify. ausbin (talk) 16:45, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Personal Computer is not a musical instrument.

edit

When I saw "Personal Computer" listed under Skrillex's instruments, I was most amused. By definition of the oxford dictionary, a musical instrument is "3 (also musical instrument) an object or device for producing musical sounds: a percussion instrument".[1] I agree that a personal computer most certainly can be used to make music, but that is not its sole purpose. Music writing is only one of the many capabilities of a PC. Compared to the other instruments listed that Skrillex plays it does not fit in. Maybe it could be noted under Production Career, saying something along the lines of "Skrillex predominately used his PC to write and record Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites". As a side note, Skrillex uses a MacBook Pro, not a PC as he stated in a Music Radar interview. "Yeah... I've got a MacBook Pro running Ableton Live with two little KRK monitors and a Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 interface."[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by SlayerKitten (talkcontribs) 03:03, 31 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

This very last part is amusing. Apple made the first popular "personal computers" long before IBM. All Apple MacIntosh computers are "personal computers". Just because IBM and Microsoft tried to make "PC" synonymous with their product only, does not mean that only their products are "personal computers". And, surprise, you have a "personal computer" in your pocket, generally called a "smartphone". 162.205.217.211 (talk) 22:22, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

He uses it to produce music, of course it should be listed. If he used sounds from coffee cups it would still be listed, even though that's not the object's sole, or even usual use.

Since when does something have to be used for one sole purpose, to be considered an instrument of said purpose? To turn my example around, if you use your piano as a coffee table, is it no longer a musical instrument? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.252.42.161 (talk) 22:49, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

While I do agree with all of your definitions of a musical instrument, that a musical instrument is "Any device created or adapted to make musical sounds", this is an incorrect definition, I don't care what Webster or any other source says. By this definition, any MP3 player is a "Musical Instrument" because it is created to make musical sounds. LaughinSkull (talk) 22:38, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well for one thing, with all due respect, whether you care what Webster says, I'm quite sure it's as reliable a source as any, as far as what words basically mean. Secondly, as I said, anything that's used to create music, becomes a musical instrument in that context. That just seems obvious. To use your example, if you use your MP 3 player to playback songs, you obviously aren't creating music at that point. It wasn't created to "create" musical sounds, no, it is created to play back sound. But if you use the sounds which emanate from it as part of a recording, well obviously at that point it's an instrument with which you are making music. It's not a value judgement, it's like saying if you use a box as a table, it becomes furniture at that point. I don't think anyone would argue with that. Whether or not the box was "created" as furniture is irrelevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.222.159.20 (talk) 00:45, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

On the page Skrillex, in Background information, specifically under "Also known as" it states he is known by the names Sonny, Twips and Skrocle. This information should also contain "Galvakza" on the list, as it was one of Sonny Moore's temporary stage names from late 2012 to late 2013. This name should be rightfully included, as it is as important as any one of his other names, as it played a large part in his career during his Leaving EP under the name Skrillex. This information is well-known among the dubstep community, and I was surprised to find this information not included.

edit

The inclusion of Sonny's most recent remix EP should be included in this Wiki just as fairly as Make It Bun Dem After Hours was included. As well as this, Jack U needs to be included as a sub-project Skrillex is incorporated with + "Take U There" is their opening single. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skegeton (talkcontribs) 17:38, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

In this article's introduction, in the ending sentence which is read as: "Skrillex has collaborated with Diplo to form the group Jack Ü, and with Boys Noize to form the group Dog Blood.", this information should also be added: "Skrillex and The Game collaborated on a single named, "El Chapo", which was released on October 9, 2015."

OWSLA

edit

Sonny came up with the name OWSLA after reading the Richard Adams nocel, "Watership Down" because he personally identified with the hero of the story, a rabbit with a thousand enemies. He also identifies with Peter Pan, saying he feels like he never grew up and still makes music for his 16 year old self. OWSLA currently has 26 artists it represents, well known and up and coming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justinpenny28 (talkcontribs) 03:42, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Early work as Skrillex

edit

One of Skrillex early hits that he is not known for is the song "Reptile" which was made in tribute to the Mortal Kombat character of the same name. It was after that hit that the rave scene took notice of him with his hard base drops, and exciting new style. This song allowed him to showcase his talent which transformed into his mainstream music career as a DJ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sgracia92 (talkcontribs) 05:41, 28 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
