Why is Siesta Key called a Key when it is not, as far as I know, truly one of the Florida Keys? Any clarification on that? I went there when I was a teenager and thought I had technically been to the Florida Keys but as I understand it that is not the case. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.224.0.237 (talkcontribs) 19:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

A "Key" is an island that connehcts 1700th Centery Sailers form the Sea to a big land mass. These Islands would be as fair inland as there ships could go so they would use these smaller land masses as a key to the bigger land mass. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.114.30.25 (talkcontribs) 19:46, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Beaches of Siesta Key

edit

I removed the entire section Beaches of Siesta Key. It was completely unsourced, and had been tagged as such for over 6 months. Most of it was likely original research, which is not allowed. Much of it also read like promotional material, which is also not allowed. Verifiability is a key policy in Wikipedia, and I doubt much of that section could be verified from reliable sources. Any attempt to restart a section on the Beaches of Siesta Key needs to cite reliable sources, and to maintain a neutral point of view. -- Donald Albury 01:48, 15 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Would "Siestakeychamber.com" be a reliable source?Mo5086a (talk) 20:37, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removing the merge box

edit

I am removing the merge box that was a result of [1]. I've just came back from a vacation in Sarasota. I've uploaded pictures from various keys and beaches. I've updated quite a few relevant articles. It is clear to me that Turtle Beach is completely different from its sister beaches to the north on the same Siesta Key.

The Turtle Beach article now has at least one picture of its own, and its own Commons category page. That article should be expanded, not merged into this one. Fred Hsu (talk) 16:06, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

TV Series

And what the MTV series Siesta Key?

It's in its third season.

Just curious. 2600:8800:784:8F00:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 01:12, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

More on the history needed

edit

There is some interesting history that could be added for Siesta Key, including shipwrecks, pirates, and major transition from the sleepy little outpost with scattered beach cottages where I lived for a year as a child into the bustling tourist destination with pricey hotels that it has now become. If you are aware of reliable sources for that, feel free to add content based on such sources to the article. Donald Albury 02:10, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
