Should the album descriptions be moved to the album pages instead? -Fetology 00:37, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)

Um, what's here regarding the second album is pretty brief but I guess it doesn't need to be repeated. Thanks for creating the mouths trapped in static/telegraphs in negative article, btw :) I'll make one for sings reign rebuilder now... --Tothebarricades.tk 04:37, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Aidan Girt was removed as a band member for unspecified reasons by a person claiming Set Fire to Flames "is my band". There isn't much to go on as far as reliable sourcing here, but I happen to have both of the band's albums handy here, and memberlists are given in both. The group's 2001 release lists "Aidan" as the drummer; this is Aidan Girt. Girt is not mentioned in the 2003 release, but nevertheless, the first album clearly states he was a member. He's also mentioned by name in this review, which meets WP:RS. I intend to restore this to the article with sourcing. If he is no longer in the group, 2 things need to happen: 1. the page needs to be updated to indicate that it is still a band, as they appear to have been inactive for more than a decade; and 2. Girt should be moved to a "former members" section. Removing Girt wholesale to reflect a (possibly) current status is ahistorical. Chubbles (talk) 17:19, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I do indeed play in set fire to flames. Not sure what is appropriate protocol for verification. Aidan never played with us directly. I gave him some sound files to manipulate/edit on the first record. He was never actively a part of the band. Never played in a room with us or recorded with us. I would also prefer that the term post-rock not be used to describe what we do. I am not interested in adding information to this page. That should be an organic process without subjective interference. I do however, want the information that is there to be accurate.Northernlights333 (talk) 18:16, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Without wishing to delve into thorny ontological questions about what it means to be "in a band", Aidan performs on the first record and is listed with other bandmembers in the liner notes, and critical commentary about the record is written with the assumption that he is a member. Anecdotes on his role would be nice to add if they come from somewhere published - perhaps an interview, or even a statement from a bandmember on his/her own website. Since we can't take individual editors' word for things, we have to rely on what published sources say; if one is found with more information about the group's creative process, then perhaps it would make sense, if true, to move Aiden's role into a section on that. However, as it stands, the sources sure make it look like he was a member (in whatever relevant sense that word is used) on the first album. As to the genre, I remain agnostic, but again, critical commentary sure seems to use it frequently in connection with the band, and removing it based on personal preference would put one in a long line of bickering on Wikipedia over band genres that I would like to avoid. This seems a bit ridiculous. I wrote those liner notes. If you read either of the press releases from alien8 recordings and fat-cat records (now posted on the set fire to flames bandcamp site) http://setfiretoflames.bandcamp.com/album/sings-reign-rebuilder or http://setfiretoflames.bandcamp.com/album/telegraphs-in-negative-mouths-trapped-in-static-2 it clearly states there are 13 musicians in set fire to flames, not fourteen. Aidan was never an active member, even though i gave him a credit for the remix he did. Also please refer to the set fire to flames page on the alien8 recordings website http://www.alien8recordings.com/artists/set-fire-to-flames which clearly states there are thirteen members.Northernlights333 (talk) 18:47, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, those press releases do not have memberlists, nor do they say much about individual musicians' roles. Sings Reign Rebuilder lists 13 musicians in the liner notes, and Aidan is one of them. I simply have no way of verifying the information you're asserting here. Certainly, it wouldn't make sense to not mention Aidan's name anywhere on the page, as we are agreed that he did clearly contribute to the first album. Chubbles (talk) 18:56, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
