Redundant stub
editI was wondering if this stub should exist, given that there is another entry for Samba. The disambiguation page lists two types of Samba dance/music (plus a type of software, which is fair enough). I believe these should be combined in the same entry, maybe mentioning ballroom samba in the previous entry. I am very new to Wikipedia, so I won't change this right now (will need to find out if approapriate and how to do it first), but if you see what I mean and want to change it now, it would be great. Thanks. (Will add this comment to the other Samba page too). —Preceding unsigned comment added by AnandaLima (talk • contribs) 08:36, 28 May 2004
- There is an immense amount of what can be written both about dance and music, and totally different thangs. So the articles must be separate. Mikkalai 23:35, 27 May 2004 (UTC)
Illustration
editHere's a samba carneval photo that could be used to illustrate the article, in case people consider it appropriate. I'm not sure if it would add much value in terms of information contents, but at least it would make the article more colourful. :) --Jonik 12:28, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Requested move
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was redirect Samba (dance) to Samba (disambiguation)#Dance styles. JPG-GR (talk) 19:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Samba (Brazilian dance) → Samba (dance) — Samba (dance) currently redirects here. I think it is unnecessary for a more generic title to redirect to a more specific one. Wikipedia article titles should be as generic as possible, if no one specific article can be put into a generic title, it should be a disambiguation page. - Redirect Samba (dance) to Samba (disambiguation)#Dance styles. In the US Samba (Brazilian dance) might be the primary use, but is this the case world wide? If someone can show a primary use I'll happily go with that. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:26, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Agree with User:JPG-GR and User:Vegaswikian. Keep the current title and change the redirect target. — AjaxSmack 03:56, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Samba originated in Africa
editThe article stated that Samba originated in Brazil but it actually originated in Africa. The Africans brought their culture to Brazil during the slave trade era and introduced Brazil to samba along with capoeira and heavy rhythmic drum music and cuisines. The article does not mention how Samba was a ceremonial dance that Africans performed and barely mentioned the use of it in capoeira which is an African form of martial arts. Please check out the following websites that support the fact of Samba's origin: dictionary.reference.com/browse/SAMBA -, www.life123.com/sports/dance/samba/origin-of-samba.shtml —Preceding unsigned comment added by Realbrazil (talk • contribs) 02:49, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- Samba did not originate in Africa! This is wrong, Samba is a disporic expression https://opanije.com/what-is-samba/, this is also present in the pt/ versions ViscondeVelho (talk) 16:09, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
