First new copper mine in 30 years?
editThe claim that the Safford is the 1st new US copper mine in 30 years is untrue. For instance, the Flambeau mine in Wisconsin was started less than 30 years ago, and there may be others. This appears to be a politician's misunderstanding or hyperbole. According to the more reliable source cited in Copper mining in Arizona, Safford is instead the largest new Arizona copper mine in more than 30 years. Plazak (talk) 15:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. When I first read it I thought it was dubious. But, there it was in black-&-white and I just sighted it. I even question that it is "new", they were scratching in that spot 100 years ago. WikiDon (talk) 23:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- The deposit may not be newly discovered, and there may have even been small mines there years ago, but the big open-pit operation is something new. Plazak (talk) 23:38, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- As documented in your article, the mine started up in late 2007. I guess that I will have to move it up to the producing mines list in Lists of copper mines in the United States. When I put it in the "Not-yet producing" list, I was not aware that it had started. Plazak (talk) 23:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
