The Bonner Affair??
editI came here ready to add the Category:Canadian political scandals as well as Politics of British Columbia, but I'm a bit stunned to see nothing here on the Bonner Affair, aka the Bonner Scandal and whatever else it's known as. Am I right in remembering that it was Bonner who was the cabinet minister charged and convicted for the sale of benefits over timber licenses, or was that another Socred cabinet minister? Guess I'll go get William Rayner's books on political scandals in BC and get busy....Skookum1 23:21, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I note the only linked ref here is to David Mitchell's writing, and he's also in the references; he's highly POV as a Liberal with strong ex-Socred leanings and all the flattering stuff on this page reads like one of his feel-good bios. More to come later once I get other sources/authors ready.Skookum1 23:25, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- That was what I found online. I don't have a bias - I just thought the guy should have an article. Fishhead64 23:27, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, he certainly should as with all prominent BC cabinet ministers and politicians, scandalous or not (have you been following my troubles re Erik Bornmann? Was almost going to email you but bothered enough people about it (via email) during my block; basics explained on my my talk page in the section "Retraction". But the Bonner Affair is definitely something that has to have an article; if it weren't New Years' Day I'd go over to the Burnaby library near here and take out Rayner's book....it's got everything in it going back a hell of a long way, including Douglas' and Begbie's conflict-of-interest cases as well as Rattenbury and the Phillippones...Skookum1 23:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- BTW I'd redlinked this somewhere as the Bonner Affair; perhaps that should be a separate article so as to not overload the bio? My Dad knew the guy, as an aside; from Hydro (Dad was construction super on the Bridge River Power Project...needless to say the old man was a Wacky fan...).Skookum1 23:50, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

- FWIW, I think that everything we need to know about this particular historical figure could be contained within a single article. I don't even know who Erik Bornkamm is - I gather someone involved in the shenanigans at the Lege a couple of years ago. But I'm sorry to read about your runins with the high poo-bahs of Wikiland, and glad you're back! Fishhead64 00:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
The best up-to-date rundown on "Ledgegate" is by Robin Matthews on the BC Mary blog, which I recommend you read FYI (you won't see this kind of coverage in the Sun, Province or Times-Colonist....)....and yeah, I'm trying to re-immerse myself in the history articles before taking on the dragon again...gotta make sure my magic sword is fully-charged up.....Skookum1 00:13, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
My mistake; it's Robert Sommers that I was thinking of, as a friend just reminded me via email; got the two Roberts and the nasal-schwa ending of their names confused. And yeah, he'll need an article....Skookum1 02:55, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
