History
editArkwright may be relevant to the history of technology, but I don't see any relevance to the history of science: why was the link to the wikiproject added? User:Noisy | Talk 03:07, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Recently the file File:Sir Richard Arkwright by Joseph Wright.jpg (right) was uploaded and it appears to be relevant to this article and not currently used by it. If you're interested and think it would be a useful addition, please feel free to include it. This appears to be another version of the current lead image, showing a detail of the face and torso, but is much higher resolution, so may still be useful. Dcoetzee 02:45, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Ref to Nightingale
editI have annotated this - Probably 'Mad Peter Nightingale' - from whom WN inherited his fortune. WN's dates were 1794-1874. JB
(I'm not sure how I should do this - I did not want to remove the reference as it is 'almost' correct I believe)
I'm currently working on a family tree of Florence Nightingale
- I've corrected that sentence, and cited a source for part of it. Comments in articles should be surrounded with

, so they don't appear in the text, and the {{dubious}} template can be used which links to the talk page. snigbrook (talk) 14:09, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Hyperbolé
editI keep looking at all these, Highs, Arkwright, Cromford articles and cringe when I see so much hyperbolé unsupported by reference. Even the obit swings from exagerated praise and criticism of this useful man. [1] Go back to Naismith in the 1895, or Naismith in 1921 p15 et seq and there is deep discussion as to what his role was, and what it was purported to be. It makes an excellent title for an undergrad history essay. Miller & Wild 2007 p 17 have opinions about his role. What ever, the term Arkwright Mills is used for the first generation of water powered spinning mills and his contribution to carding is not usually sung.
It is imperative that statements are referenced, then these references checked to see that they are not merely repeating urban myths. I seemed to remember 1950s primary school history textbooks almost beatified him. One can smell the the stench of political indoctrination still. (POV). Social context of Arkwright - Marx
editArkwright is mentioned several time in Marx's Capital. Both in order to balance the article with a critical perspective, and to understand the social context of this man, it be relevant to include a paragraph on his representation by Marx? Perhaps the most pertinent brief quote is in a footnote:
"Whoever knows the life history of Arkwright, will never dub this barber-genius noble. Of all the great inventors of the 18th century, he was incontestably the greatest thiever of other people‘s inventions and the meanest fellow."
