Rhinogobius aporus → Pseudorhinogobius – FishBase, the agreed taxonomic authority for fish at the species and genus level for Wikipedia, has this species in the monotypic genus Pseudorhinogobius Quetzal1964 (talk) 11:36, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

- Comment - I think this needs a discussion. Not a clear-cut uncontroversial case. — Amakuru (talk) 14:59, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - Rhinogobius aporus is one of many species of Rhinogobius, which thus is not monotypic. The misunderstanding seems to be that when the species was discovered in 1998, it was named Pseudorhinogobius aporus as it was believed to be only remotely related to Rhinogobius. The original authors Jun-Sheng Zhong and Han-Lin Wu reclassified it in 2009, under Rhinogobius, thus renaming it Rhinogobius aporus (see the paper); thus, the current valid name. Referring to FishBase, it is not the only taxonomic datable; the more versatile Catalog of Fishes has the taxonomic status: "Valid as Rhinogobius aporus (Zhong & Wu 1998)".
