I don't understand the query about notability. This is a simple biographical and literary article about a poet who has published three well-received books, won a national literary award, and received a high public honour (appointment as a Commander of Distinction--equivalent to a British OBE or in the US something like a Presidential commendation). Would a British or US poet with that profile be thought insufficiently notable?
I will add additional material to the page, including further references, asap. There are reviews available online, assortedly, and e.g. a CD of Thompson reading his work that has liner notes by the Jamaican poet Edward Baugh (who has a Wiki-page). But I still don't understand the thinking behind the notability warning.
