Official positions of band members

edit

What are the official positions of each member of Rainbow? The instability here is unproductive, and cannot continue, especially without discussion. The page is a mess right now, and that needs to be fixed. Thoughts? Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 21:13, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Google translator from their Japanese profile say vocal, main vocal, and team leader. Anything else is purely fan speculation. Sadly, someone will change it one day, another will change it again, it will go back and forth because they would rather fight about than actually using the official sources. http://universal-music.co.jp/rainbow/biography/ Evaders99 (talk) 09:27, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
These are positions from the Japanese website:
Jaekyung - vocal, dance
Woori - rap, vocal
Seungah - vocal
Hyunyoung - main vocal
Noeul - rap, vocal
Jisook - main vocal
Yoonhye - vocal, rap
They should not be changed without a reliable source. Random86 (talk) 01:00, 28 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hadn't thought of it like that (assuming you mean it's sexist). If others generally feel the same, maybe (pop group), (singing group) or just (group) would work better? I've a fairly decent imagination, but even disregarding Blackmore's Rainbow, it's hard to equate this with "band". It's easier with something like doo-wop or a capella, where each voice plays the role of an instrument. This sounds like three tracks of the same voice. • Oppose regardless of the name of the South Korean article, the British article should never be moved to "band", since it will always need more disambiguatory material than just that, so that band article should not be moved to "band", and it should always redirect to the disambiguation page. -- 65.92.182.123 (talk) 03:01, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Why would Blackmore's Rainbow always need more disambiguation? These two are the only things named Rainbow that can be conceivably be called a "band" on Rainbow (disambiguation). There aren't even less notable Rainbow bands in black or red text. Once this is renamed appropriately (per all the sources that call it a girl group), we'll have no disambig issues. Right now, anyone specifically searching for "Rainbow (band)" gets a page with 90 items, 88 of which they almost certainly didn't want. 97.8% irrelevancy is 100% wrong. Done the right way, we'd stick "For the South Korean group, see..." on Blackmore's. Anyone looking for the pseudo-band would be one click away, rather than a scroll, search and click. The majority wouldn't need to click anything. InedibleHulk (talk) 03:29, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose but only because it goes against Wikipedia conventions. See WP:SONGDAB. Granted, there are examples that go against this, but it seems to be for pages that don't have much editing "traffic" or overview. Regardless, I would suggest a discussion on the other page, but I see that one already started and it's kinda hinging on this one.... I say that because personally, I don't have an issue with the other page being at Rainbow (band) with a hatnote pointing to this one (with the name left as-is) because the other page demonstrates greater notability than this one. Of course, assuming that there will be notable bands named Rainbow in the future, it may be easier to leave things as they are, but that's being speculative.... If the only thing holding you back is a guideline, consider that we're only meant to attempt to follow them, and common sense allows for exceptions. Policies are broader than guidelines. One such policy is WP:IAR. In this case, the 97.8 irrelevancy thing and the verifiable fact that this is a girl group means we can improve efficiency while maintaining accuracy by changing your vote.
