Not just hurricane-related structures
editIf we're truly going to do something with this article, banding associated with extratropical cyclones, which can be associated with heavy snowfall and severe weather, need to be added. Hence the addition of the other subprojects. If someone wants to replace the three above with the general meteorology tag, go right ahead. Thegreatdr (talk) 17:40, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Misleading name
editSince this is associated as much with snow as it is with rain bands, shouldn't the name be Precipitation band, isn't it ? Pierre cb (talk) 18:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Other point
There is a lot mentionned about vertical thermal instability but banded precipitations ahead of a warm front, a source of a large portion of the overall QPF, is Conditional Symmetric Instability. The airmass is neither unstable thermically nor gravitationally in CSI conditions but a slantwise and upward movement of the air parcel make it unstable (see [http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/csi/ CSI Homepage]. - This information will need to be added. If you want to change the article to precipitation band, feel free, and we can make rainband a redirect. I don't see a point of differentiating the two since the physical processes are the same. Thegreatdr (talk) 18:54, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the agreeing with me. You seem to be the major contributor to the article but I would like to hear from others before changing the name as I did not contribute to it myself. Pierre cb (talk) 19:11, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Let's give others a few weeks for feedback before making changes. Thegreatdr (talk) 20:46, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
