Queensland's tropical rainforest fall into 3 main categories; Equatorial Monsoon Rainforest, Tropical Monsoon Rainforest, and Tropical Rainforest. All these rainforests are found up along the East coast of Queensland, starting just North of brisbane, and all the way up to the tip of Cape-York Penninsula, and along the edges of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Queensland Rainforests contain about 66% of Australia's Rainforest, the rest are found in The Northern Territory, and an extremely isolated portion in Northeast New South Wales. These rainforests are one of the most ancient ecosystyms on earth.
These rainforests only contain about 4% of the Worlds rainforests, but, at the same time, are by far the most biodiverse and ancient in the world, in both Flora and Fauna. Some rare or isolated, yet spectacualr species are abundunt in these small regions, such as the Green Tree Python, Palm Cockatoo, Giant Treefrog, and the worlds largest crocodilian, the Indopacific, or Saltwater Crocodiles are found here. Its rainforests contain over 50% of the continents birds are sheltered here, 30% of all marsupials, and most of the biodiversity in Australia. Its wide range of plants include, the rare yet exotic idiot fruit, Eucalypts, red pine and over 18 000 different and unique plant species, and it contains a complete record of plant evolution on the Australian continent.
EQUATORIAL MONSOON RAINFORESTS The second most richest out of the 3 categories in biodiversity, hense the name, the climate is extreme. The landscape varies greatly throughout the year, in the Wet Season, (Monsoon Season), the rainforest is lush and lively from November to March, with flooded rivers and inaccessable roads, such as Highway 2. In the dry season, however, the forests are bleat and dry, with dried rivers and what were wetlands become arid wastelands. These forests are most abundunt on the very Northern point of Cape York, and virtually nowhere else. The forests take up about 1/3 of cape york penninsula. Some interesting and isolated species found in this area include Black Headed pythons, Palm Cockatoos, Green tree Pythons, 2 species of Kangaroos, and much more. Many of these species share similar habitats just North on the island of Papua New Guinea.
TROPICAL MONSOON RAINFOREST The more less active and biodiverse compared to the other 2 categories lively, and widespread rainforest on the continent. The climate only has one dry season, which is nowhere near is dry as the Equatorial Monsoon Rainforest, and the season doesn't last as long either. The landscape is the most ruggen and variable howener, with high mountains in the Great dividing Range, to dense, lowland rainforest in certain areas, where mangroove swamps are abundunt
