Prolative and Benefactive
editTrask's A Dictionary of Grammatical Terms in Linguistics says that "prolative" is a synonym for "benefactive", and describes the perlative case as meaning "by way of" and showing path of motion. Who's right? — Gwalla | Talk 07:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've always been using prolative for 'by way of', which is at least how it's used in Uralic language literature, whereas benefactive is for the person who benefits from an action. These are not synonymous in my mind. Its possible Trask made some mistakes though. --Ryan 04:23, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
