Updated and improved the fleet summary. We need a gallery preferably. I can give a few links. --Dennisman (talk) 17:24, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
End of Preston Bus
editNow that Preston Bus has been taken over by Stagecoach North West, what is going to happen to this page? I think it should be merged, as like the old ChesterBus page was merged into a First Group page, with some info added onto the page. Reply here please. Dennisman (talk) 12:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Certainly details about routes, fleet etc should at some point be moved to Stagecoach North West, but there is scope for a Borough of Preston Transport article for a history of that organisation (and by extension Preston Bus Ltd) should anyone research that area, in much the same way as there is one for Ribble Motor Services - although it needs some referencing!
- Having said that, it may be wise to delay any such merge until we are sure that there will be no referral to the competition authorities. Divy (talk) 13:54, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- I would not merge the article. This article contains a lot of information about Preson Bus and its details. Stagecoach North West is a big article with lots of places covered. There is no place in that article for the Preson Bus details. Certainly some detail should be moved across, but it can't fit everything that is in this article into it.
- Preston Bus has a long history, and it would be a shame to merge it and lose all of the information. Personally, I think the merger of ChesterBus was a bad idea as a lot of the information has been lost. There is now article for "Chester bus", a name which is much stronger and has much more meaning than "First Chester & The Wirral".
- I think the situation with Eastbourne Buses (which has all of the old information about that company) and new article Stagecoach in Eastbourne is much better. Arriva436talk/contribs 18:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- On further consideration, I agree that both of you are right and I was wrong, and the old ChesterBus page needs to be returned in a style like this. Don't merge and ignore my old comments that it should be merged Dennisman (talk) 10:14, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think it should be merged with Stagecoach North West, as Stagecoach is planning to perhaps separate it from the rest of Stagecoach North West. They are going to keep the Preston Bus website, but re-lable it and re-arrange it. Stagecoach in Preston is going to be one of Stagecoach's biggest subsidaries ; if you combine the current fleets of Preston Bus and Preston Citi, it makes a much bigger fleet than that of Lancaster and Carlisle. And yet Stagecoach is buying more buses for her. Especially to replace the double deckers that they have sold to others. Anyway, regarding the Wikipedia article, it should just be renamed Stagecoach in Preston, and change the motto and logo etc. I can get it all, as I walk home passing many Stagecoach Buses - 19,40,41,4,7,19A. The logo and motto are written on the buses, and I could take pictures. We should have a different category for Preston Bus history. MJLRGS (talk) 20:51, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Rather than just move the page, and risk loosing a lot of info, I think we should do the Eastbourne example.
- Stagecoach bought Eastbourne Buses. A new article was created called Stagecoach in Eastbourne, so old historical info is on the Eastbourne Buses page and new on the Stagecoach page. The Stagecoach article now also covers Cavendish Motor Services, who they have also now bought.
- This would work well here. Preston Bus is kept as an article about the past company. New page Stagecoach in Preston is created. This will cover all new info about both PB and Preston Citi, similarly to Eastbourne Buses and Cavendish.
- Stagecoach in Preston is part of Stagecoach North West, so this is the same setup as Stagecoach in Hants & Surrey, which is part of Stagecoach South.
- I think this is the best plan, as it will keep all of the information about all of the companies, rather than it just dying out as it gets moved and updated. Arriva436talk/contribs 20:52, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
← Following some more things that were threatening to kill of some of the Preston bus information, I have now carried out what I suggested above. All "Stagecoach in Preston" information should go in that new article (it's no longer a redirect), and the Preston Bus article will be limited to what the old company did.
As I said above, this is the same as what has been done at Eastbourne Buses and Stagecoach in Eastbourne, which is an almost identical situation to what has happened in Preston.
Hopefully, this will mean that the two trading names don't get squeezed into one article when they are actually quite different.
I will be making more edits to try and restore some information and avoid duplication. Arriva436talk/contribs 13:54, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- You have done the exact right thing to do Arriva 436. But I think the Stagecoach in Preston site is just right at the moment, and we should only change it as the bus division changes over time. (MJLRGS (talk) 19:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC))
- Thanks. I agree, the Stagecoach page should just be developed with the company's changes. Arriva436talk/contribs 20:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Former Routes
editIs it possible we could include the former routes such as 28 (later 45) or maybe the 5 or 6? There were also routes like the 21, 27, 29, and 30, all significant routes in Preston and among the busiest. We can use templating such as the one with current bus services. Tez011 (talk) 12:57, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- whatever I did it anyway. Tez011 (talk) 21:03, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
Merge proposal
editI propose merging Stagecoach in Preston into Preston Bus (PB). Looking back, for an operator that only existed for two years before being merged back into PB, I think the 'History' section of the Stagecoach article is essentially a duplicate of the PB article's 'History' section, albeit with less refinement and cites. Therefore, I think the purpose of the Stagecoach article is relatively moot. I'm not totally sure, though, if any specifics should be mentioned to make the Stagecoach article retainable, as the only significant thing I can see on that page is the Preston Citi brand - even then, I'm not sure that would warrant it's own section in the PB article. - Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 23:05, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
