Two Portage Roads
editThere are two different roads called "Portage Road" in Auckland. One is in Otahuhu, and the other between New Lynn and Green Bay. Both are named for following the route of a former portage from one body of water to another.
- The Portage Road in Otahuhu follows an old portage between the Manukau Harbour and the Tamaki River.
- The Portage Road between New Lynn and Green Bay follows an old portage between the Manukau Harbour and the Whau River, an estuarial arm of the Waitemata Harbour.
Removed from districts category
editThe term district in this context is taken to mean a definable area of any size (such as a suburb), but not an individual building or street. I'm going to remove this from Auckland Urban Districts Stefan.mac 03:36, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
