Popeyes
editHi - I just took a look at the chicken sandwich article, and started to do a bit of work to make it MOS compliant, but I ultimately think that User:Discospinster's redirect of the article was the right call - WP:NOTNEWS applies here, and some of the assertions were very dubious - the source about Quavo, for example, made it clear that his Instagram post was a humorous stunt, not something that we should be covering at all (much less presenting as if it was serious). This could potentially be covered by a brief paragraph at Popeyes, it doesn't need an article of its own. Naturally you are free to revert my redirect, and we can argue the toss at AfD if you prefer. - Update - I just checked Popeyes, I see it is mentioned there already, with a couple of decent sources and probably sufficient detail. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 01:00, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- Girth Summit Thanks for leaving a comment. The last guy didn't notify me or leave a comment, just re-directed the page before i was even done. Since Popeye's doesn't really do many sandwiches and since many chain sandwiches have their signature meals in wikipedia, I think the Popeye's sandwich would deserve its own page. I certainly think there has been enough media attention regarding the sandwich and it looks to be ongoing for quite a while. The stats and marketing regarding the launch are becoming noteworthy on their own. The Big Mac and Whopper each have their own page and it would allow for the nutritional value of the meal to be mentioned in the article. Again, it was a stub I created today and wasn't exactly finished with. I didnt even have a photo up or time to go through a lot of the press. I would prefer the page stayed up to see if others would contribute and fill out the article. Thx .. Also about the tag.. I'm not sure which you are referring to but from what i gathered those were the badges for 1 edit and 100 edits.. ScienceAdvisor (talk) 01:27, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- OK, so... yes, the Big Mac and the Whopper have their own articles, but I would argue that they are orders of magnitude more notable than this sandwich. I appreciate that it's garnering a lot of attention at the moment, but the Big Mac and Whopper has been around for decades, are frequently referenced in films, novels, as well as being discussed in some considerable depth in numerous reliable sources. in infinitely more depth than this chicken sandwich. This sandwich - not so much. Everything that Wikipedia needs to say about this sandwich, for the time being at least, can easily be accommodated within the Popeyes article; if, after a period of time has passed, this sandwich has continued to be written about in significant depth in decent sources, then it might warrant a stand-alone article. But at the moment it's just a trending news story, nothing more.
- As I say - you're welcome to disagree with that view. Per WP:BRD, my redirect was BOLD, you are entitled to REVERT, and we can then DISCUSS at AfD.
- As an aside, a bit of advice I'd give anyone is to use draft space when working up an article. As soon as you create a new article, it appears in the New Page Patrol queue (which I volunteer on, which is how I arrived at your article). If it is obvious that an article is actively being worked on we tend to leave it a bit for the author to get on with it, but if there have been no edits for maybe 20 minutes we'll assume that it's finished and review it, which may end up in it being redirect, draftified, or nominated for deletion. If however you keep it in user draft space, you can wait until your sources are all in there and you've spruced up your text before publishing it and putting it into the queue. That's what I always do with my articles anyway, and I'd recommend it. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 01:49, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Girth Summit Honestly while you may think this is WP:TooSoon, I think the sandwich represents probably one of the best marketing campaigns to date, it is ongoing, there is huge public interest, and lets face the idea the sandwich will eventually get its own page in a month or a year from now. I think it is important that it's nutritional information be available due to it's popularity and this is an ongoing news story which should gather a lot of additions to the page. If you feel it really isn't worthy of a page then feel free to nominate it for AfD and we can see what the group thinks. ScienceAdvisor (talk) 04:30, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Girth Summit Also I think I am going to move this conversation to the talk page for the article so other editors know that we have had this conversation and can participate. ScienceAdvisor (talk) 04:32, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
