Edit war? Power over Ethernet is important on that page

edit

I have been adding several times now "Power over Ethernet" on top of the page, just below the "most often refers to" claim for Edgar Poe. I have nothing against literature, I have read some Edgar Poe texts myself, I have not tried to undo other's work by changing this "most often refers to" claim in favor of the emerging technology that Power over Ethernet is, and I have not removed the redirect link from poe but rather proposed it further down that page. However, I have added, below that "most often refers to" claim, another meaning of poe that in my honest opinion has its place on top of the page and not lost in the middle of the list.

NormanEinstein, you have twice undone my change, despite the fact that I explicitly asked you to argue on that page rather than purely delete my entry (see my entry below from 18 November 2009). The facts have not changed, "PoE power" gives still far more hits in google that "Poe Edgar", per today about 3 times more hits for "PoE power". Please stop the war, discuss it here instead, and give your arguments. Others can comment as well.

History-Merge Documentation

(Page merge in progress --Jerzyt 22:13, 10 September 2005 (UTC)) Separate Dabs under the two titles can interfere with "POE" or "poe" go-box users getting to the writer. Still in progress --Jerzyt 22:53, 10 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Why not a redirect?

edit

None of these "Poes" even approaches Edgar Allan Poe in distinction. Why not redirect this to the main article, and have a Poe (disambiguation) page for the others? H2O Shipper 19:33, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good to me. — Hex (❝?!❞) 21:00, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, someone created the Poe disambig page as a redirect already, as a redirect to this page. I don't have the stomach to fight about it right now, but may look into it more later. H2O Shipper 01:11, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Voila, magic. :) — Hex (❝?!❞) 03:20, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I would like people to notice that "None of these "Poes" even approaches Edgar Allan Poe in distinction." is an obselete statement. Why then revert my gentle change NormanEinstein? I did not go to conflict, did not steal the automatic redirect to the author, just had the most common meaning pointed out clearly on disambiguation page. Ref to google:
first hit for "poe" is Power over Ethernet" wikipedia page [1]
6.5 million hits for "poe power" per today [2]
3.3 million hits for "poe edgar" per today [3]
I propose that the automatic redirect to the author is removed, and that the disambiguation page is used instead. In the meantime I re-commit my change.

Poe (singer)

edit

I don't know if there's an official policy on this, but I removed her from A&E (mostly names of works and no other people.) while leaving her in the People category. If we include artists and entertainers in A&E we'll either have a lot of redundancy or no reason for a People section (as, to be consistent, politicians will go into politics, etc). As is seems to be what other disambig pages do. Thmazing (talk) 00:19, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
