Unlike the lithophytes in other subfamilies, these are saxicolous? That's not clear to me. --Dan Wylie-Sears 2 (talk) 17:27, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
In keeping with the spelling convention for the other two subfamilies of Bromeliads (Bromelioideae and Tillandsioideae), I think Pitcairnoideae should be renamed Pitcairnioideae. I believe that both are acceptable spellings, but it makes sense to have a consistent spelling convention.Jwgloverii 21:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- John - I moved that page to the correctly spelled one and I think I changed all the pages which link to it. Feel free to resume the correct spelling with the additional i if you add more genera to that subfamily. This page could use a photo, too. Mmcknight4 02:55, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Misuse of vocabulary
editI don't think this wording in the description sectionis appropriate:
"...Their blooms contain dry capsules with small, wingless seeds..."
As I understand the term, "Bloom" refers to the flower or inflorescence before it has set seed. Perhaps the better term would be "infructescence," with a definition or a link to the definition Infructescence. If we want to avoid specialized vocabulary we could say something like "after pollination and ripening, the mature flower head contains..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmmeiss (talk • contribs) 13:45, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
