editAn attempt to insert libellous and defamatory allegations using a non RS has been removed, added by IP Address 148.252.133.185 The same issue occurred on the Northern Independence Party – see Talk. These additions violate Biographies of living persons where contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. Attention must be paid to core content policy 4 on biographies of living persons, which states that biographical articles must be written to the highest standard using only high-quality sources.
Therefore, caution is to be advised in having any further discussion on the matter given strong legal implications, where Libelous material could expose Wikipedia to legal consequences.
- Absolutely nothing about the allegations against Proudfoot are libellous. All the claims in that section had reliable sources to back them up. You do not remove material from a person's article because it makes them look bad. 148.252.133.185 (talk) 20:22, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
The issue is not that it looks bad but that it violates Biographies of living persons. You are further again advised to remove the content of allegations from this discussion as per Biographies of living persons. Furthermore, the accusation made is not cited in the source given, this also violates Libelous — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vasey2020 (talk • contribs) 20:33, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
- All the allegations are cited in the source in question. You are being deliberately disingenuous, and considering your edit history it seems apparent that you have a conflict of interest and are potentially a single-purpose account, both of which are against Wikipedia policy. I would ask that you clarify this. 148.252.133.185 (talk) 20:43, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Escalated to appropriate talk board, contributor trying the insertions clearly has an axe to grind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.199.207.22 (talk) 20:49, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Autobiography? WP:YOURSELF
editThe very first revision of this Wikipedia page (https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Philip_Proudfoot&oldid=1087091911), mentions that Philip Proudfoot lives in Brighton and Hove.
And it was created by an anon/IP editor geolocated to Brighton and Hove (https://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/195.10.222.220).
This initial revision is quite lengthy and well-sourced, suggesting a high-degree of familiarity with how Wikipedia works. That's extremely unusual among anonymous editors.
I suspect that this article may have been written by the subject himself, and thus may fall afoul of the guidelines in WP:YOURSELF, starting with:
Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict-of-interest editing and is strongly discouraged. Editing a biography about yourself is acceptable only if you are removing unambiguous vandalism or clear-cut and serious violations of our biography of living persons policy.

- That isn't the very first revision of the article, though – this is: revision
- The article was created by Unreal7, not an IP. It was only months later that Unreal7 added the fact Proudfoot lives in Brighton (diff). It's worth noting Unreal7 is a prolific editor and there's nothing I can see to suggest she is COI-editing (or Proudfoot himself!). I can't really see any other problematic editing in the history either (nothing along these lines, at least). GhostOfNoMan 01:10, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- And although that IP indeed resolves to Brighton and Hove, the diff of the revision you linked shows our IP friend only deleted a superfluous word (diff) and their later edits are fixing spelling errors, removing whitespace, and attaching a photo. Pretty harmless stuff. GhostOfNoMan 01:19, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, and sorry. I completely goofed in looking at the revision history. 🤦🏻♂️ —Moxfyre (ǝɹʎℲxoɯ | contrib) 01:30, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- No worries! Happens to the best of us. :P GhostOfNoMan 01:35, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
