Despite the sheer size of this brilliant-looking article (~110 KB at this writing), I'm taking a shot at this biography of a 19th-century Brazilian ruler. However, such stuff is far beyond my current interests, and the article takes time to load on IE8 (at least on the system I'm accessing), so I'll give another user a chance to review it.

For now, I've only filled out part of the quality requirements (this is the first time I've begun a GAC). Again, if I can do it myself, it'll take some time. --Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 05:16, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll review the article since Slgrandson says he's unable to. Due to the size, I'll split the review into sections, and it could take up to a week to completely finish it. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 16:36, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for picking this up Wizardman. • Astynax talk 18:36, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I'll do the review in chunks over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the 25th. Been quite busy over here the past week. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:19, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Early life

edit
  • "Emperor Pedro I abdicated on 7 April 1831, after a long conflict with the liberals." I would link as to what liberals you're referring to here. Since I'm not well versed in Brazilian politics I have no idea. Done
  • "and even contact with his sisters was limited." Not sure if 'even' is needed here, but maybe I'm being overly nitpicky. Done --Lecen (talk) 17:09, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Consolidation

edit
  • "Pedro II was faced by three crises during the decade between 1848 and 1852" I'd remove 'during the decade' since that doesn't feel right; after all, 1848-1852 is parts of two decades.

Growth

edit
  • "And to achieve self-determination required that he acquire and maintain sufficient power." Sentences shouldn't start with 'and'.
  • "And though his direction became indispensable, it never devolved into "one-man rule."" same
  • "due the necessity of a marriage of state to a woman for whom he never felt passion" due to the
  • ""I believe that useless expenditure is robbing the Nation"." punctuation goes inside quotations in these cases.

Triple Alliance

edit
  • No issues.

Apogee

edit
  • "Upon arriving in Lisbon Portugal," comma between city and country.

Decline

edit
  • No issues.

Exile

edit
  • "Solemn "masses were held all over the country, which were followed by eulogies praising Dom Pedro II and the monarchy"." Period goes inside the quotes.

Titles etc.

edit
  • No issues.

Miscellaneous

edit
  • References check out; all books appear to be solid sources, nothing vanity.
  • Images check out as public domain, no issues.
