Paul Gilbert and his technique

Paul Gilbert is regarded as an extremely clean alternate picker and string skipper, but I never heard of him being an exceptional tapper. Sure he taps well, but he did not bring anything new or wasn't exceptional at tapping like Stanley Jordan or Reb Beach. User:Felenoral 03:00, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Big

No mention of Mr. Big at all ? After all, he recorded a lot of albums with them, toured with them, and I am tempted to say that Mr. Big was a big part of getting his solo career off the ground, as he got plenty of exposure touring and recording with them...

Let's not forget that Paul also collaborated in writing 'To Be With You', one of the most popular songs of the 90's.

Yngwie and Vai

the bits about yngwie and vai attending GIT sounds like they took lessons there, when, as far as i or anyone else knows, they were most likely giving perfromances/seminars.

I think an 'as' in "as well as Gary Hoey" is missing. Maybe it should be "attended with Gary Hoey"? Or is it trying say that Gary Hoey and others also teach there? It's so awkward that a one word change might not be enough to fix it and it should be rewritten. Better yet, the whole Gary Hoey unconnected clause could be dropped. Influences, Hendrix

I am only guessing this, but I am going to add Hendrix to the list merely because of the amount of cover's he's done and the obvious influence in his music.

Second thoughts, nevermind- if someone has some source ad it, I guess the 'blues' as an influence works enough, just thought that Hendrix seemed such a huge influence.

I don't believe a citation is needed regarding the last sentence, as among guitarists this is common knowledge.

I disagree strongly with the sentence regarding his legato technique. He is a very efficient picker and can both alternate-pick and use legato technique for blazing speed. Paul's gear - update!

I just went to see mr. Gilbert in Copenhagen, the 25th of May 2007, and he used the following effects:

Fulltone OCD, Xotic AC Booster, EHX Electric Mistress, EHX Poly Flanger, Geoffrey Teese RMC wah, Fulltone Deja Vibe, BOSS TU-2 tuner, MXR Phase 90 Script model. Last but not least, he had an effect that he used for distortion. I could not figure out which one it was, but it might have been the "Enter the Drive" by Divine Audio.

Confusion about Buckethead

Although Paul's official site confirms it to be untrue, there are still many people out there who believe that Buckethead is Paul Gilbert, not to mention the amount of rumors that still float about the Internet. Rumours fall under policy WP:NOT and should not be added in. If it were mentioned in a notable publication(Guitar Player)... then it could be added in as referenced text. But just adding a rumour and leaving it uncited is original research. 156.34.142.110 16:19, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

It is mentioned on Paul's official site, and the site itself was actually created by Paul. So even he knows that people think he's Buckethead.

Small timing difference?

At the top of the page, in the mini-bio, it says he left Mr. Big in 1996, while later on in the article it says 1997.

2008 album

It's called Silence Followed By a Deafening Roar in American and Europe, but in Japanese it was decided that that was way to long a title, so they called it Houkou, or "Roar" in Japanese. Rend48 (talk) 15:35, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Gear

Paul did not switch from ADA preamps to Marshall Vintage Modern amplifiers - he used Laney amps for much of his career. Only recently did Paul switch to the Vintage Moderns.

Bad Citation

This citation for "Top Shredders of All Time" is pretty lame. It's someone's personal website, for crying out loud. I can agree that Paul Gilbert is an amazing guitarist and probably belongs somewhere in the top 10, but come on, this is not a definitive source. Paul Gilbert with Sammy Hagar?

It seems like I read, years ago, that Paul Gilbert sang backing vocals on the two new songs on Sammy Hagar's Unboxed, but I haven't been able to find anything about it on the internet. Tapping

Paul Gilbert is an outstanding tapping expert. This is proven on his most recently released album, more than any before it. He is also famous as an instructor, and released an excellent instructional video for Total Guitar Television, in which he demonstrates how to tap extremely fast. The first poster stated he didn't bring anything new to tapping, this may or may not be true, however I've never seen Paul's technique used by anyone else. I'm talking specifically about, with your right hand, tapping under your left hand, and then using your left hand to hammer on and pull off, making it sound a lot faster.

Why aren't the Racer X live albums included. They are very popular with Racer X fans.

Best known for…

The second sentence in the article is: “ He is best known for being the co-founder of the band Mr. Big.”

I think this is either outdated or just never was true. As far as I can tell, he was always best known as a guitar instructor (either at GIT or elsewhere but more likely his videos). I don’t see where this claim is backed up by any reference.
