Sound correspondences between Mota and Olrat
editUsing Francois (2005)'s chart, the Mota form ulrata can only point to *ulurata or *ulirata. The Olrat form, spelled ōlrat, can only point to *olirata, *olurata, *ularata, *ulerata, and *ulorata. Since Mota deletes unstressed high vowels, the second vowel must be high, leaving only *olirata and *olurata. However, the initial vowel of the Mota form can only come from a *u, so we have a mismatch here. How can these be explained? Kwékwlos (talk) 00:38, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
