What is the relationship between the Altdeutsche(r) Schäferhund and Altdeutsche Hütehunde? Not knowing any German, as far as I can work out they translate as "Old German Sheepdog" and "Old German Herd Dog". I've seen both referred to as "Old German Shepherd" (for example, here). Looking at the German WP articles, the former seems to be a landrace version of the modern German Shepherd, and the latter a broader or more variable group of types. Is the Schäferhund one type of Hütehunde, are they separate types, or are they the same thing? The German WP has two articles: de:Altdeutscher Schäferhund and de:Altdeutsche Hütehunde. The Altdeutsche Hütehunde are the Altdeutsche Schäferhunde. The so called "Old German Shepherd Dogs" on this image in this article is nothing else then German Shepherd Dogs with long hair. This longhair-dogs are since 2008 again part of the standard of the SV (Kennel Club for the German Shepherd in Germany)[1]. The other image may show a kind of an Old German
Some breeders of the longhaired German Shepherd took the name from this extincting Altdeutsche Schäferhunde (now mostly denoted "Hütehunde") to sell their puppies.--Zuviele Interessen (talk) 15:01, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I thinks its obvious whoever wrote this article didn't speak english as a first language.
I tried to fix it to the best of my abilities; however, other efforts to improve it are welcome. (If you see something that needs fixing, dear commenter, why not fix it yourself?
