this page is way, way too long for anyone other than the eponymous to have written it... a sure sign of an egotist... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.199.99.236 (talk) 05:09, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bell Labs or GE?

edit

After trying to find where the LED really was invented I came across a page from PBS saying Nick worked at Bell Labs

Other pages I have read, and this article, however claim his work (and invention of the LED) was at GE

Can anyone confirm where he really invented the led?

He worked for both but it was at GE that he invented the LED. See his profile at the univeristy of illinois website [1] -Chapuisat 17:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ukrainian Scientist?

edit

I deleted him from the category "Ukrainian scientists" for a few reasons. He seems to have been born in Illinois, so while he may be Ukrainian-American, he's not Ukrainian. Other similar inventors, for instance Stephanie Kwolek, who is a Polish-American, do not appear under lists of scientists for the countries of their ancestors.--Gloriamarie 01:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Laser Diodes in Cell Phones?

edit

The article claims laser diodes are used in cell phones. Can anyone explain this? I'm not aware of any cell phones that have lasers. What would a laser be used for in a cell phone? Unless its a cell phone with built-in laser pointer. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.99.19.63 (talk) 05:09, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

First light dimmer

edit
He helped create the first light dimmer while at GE.[1]

The first light dimmers were things like adjustable gas jets, movable lime mounts etc, created before this man was born. The first electric light dimmers were salt water tanks, variable resistors, generator adjustments and so on, again before he was born. First triac light dimmer maybe, I don't know.
