Hoku as "Hawaii's Grammys"
editWhile I think DissidentAgressor has a point in adding the dubious tag, I'm not sure that the edit summary is a sufficient basis. Dissident's edit summary: "grammy is international - this is hyperlocal". Even without ignoring the hyperbolism, I'm not sure the objection is relevant. I believe the statement on the page implies that the comparison is of purpose, and not scope. Perhaps it needs better phrasing?
A claim to being the most prestigious of its class does require citations. I believe the citations now provided help establish that. The article from the website of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser had a sub-title, "Hawaii's most prestigious music awards have grown and evolved along with the industry"[1]. I'd also point out (what brought me to this page), the CD in front of me. The Brothers Cazimero, "20 Years: Hoku Award Wining Songs". It is a theme album, covering each "Song of the Year", for the first 20 years of the awards. The back of the insert also states of the Hoku Awards "It is the Hawaiian version of the Grammy.", and ends in "We salute you and the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts for elevating the standards of Hawaiian music." I have recently been informed by the HARA President Pali Kaaihue that HARA Hawaii Acad of recording arts no longer wants to be called "Hawaii's version of the GRAMMYs" I understand that in MANY links in the past day have this type of name looped in with the title. I have removed it but other editors keep adding it back in. I'm just being told what to do from the Academy directly. Any of the new press links that roll out should no longer have the term "GRAMMY" in it at all going forward. You will also take notice that the links being used are almost 10 years old. - Allan, we don't take orders from the subject of the Wikipedia article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia -- it reports what reliable independent sources say. Softlavender (talk) 04:43, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- Softlavender I understand, but please know all of your links you are using are a little old. If you would reference any of the last years links none and I mean none of them state that the Hoku Awards is Hawaii's GRAMMYs. This is a TM issue as well. The old links you have say Hawaii's GRAMMYs but the new ones don't. How do we determine which to use to describe? Allanbcool (talk) 10:38, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- The age of the independent reliable source(s) does not matter, and I have numerous recent reliable independent sources that say the same thing. Would you like me to add them to the article as well? (By the way, please indent your talkpage posts to nest properly under the post you are replying to, using increasing numbers of colons. I've done that for you on your post above.) Use of Kahakō?
editGiven that the title of the article is "Na Hoku Hanohano Awards" but the official spelling is "Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards" per the official website here, should the title of the article include the kahakō? As far as I can tell, the use of kahakō in the title is the official spelling as well as being present on both the website as well as the awards themselves, so I don't see why not.
