Requested Move

The channel is no longer called 'Super Channel', but 'NBC Europe', but NBC Europe (a redirect to Super Channel) has a page history.

I'm going to oppose this on the grounds of the channel not existing anymore and being known best as Super Channel. NBC Europe only even somewhat exists as NBC GIGA now. --Kiand 21:09, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

From a bit of googling, it appears that GIGA is a spinoff/rebrand of NBC Europe after all english language content (such as conan o'brien) was moved to CNBC Europe. I read a forum posting on digital spy that said that NBC Europe does still exist but only as a cable feed for analogue cable providers who do not have the bandwidth for both channels, however I can't find anything definitive anywhere. Theres an analogue satellite channel which carries a mix of NBC GIGA and Das Vierte as well as possibly CNBC, but I'm not sure. This is for cable companies, but its not marketed as NBC Europe, but as a mix of what it is. --Kiand 13:19, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Ah that'll be it then, so let me check the chronology (because this article seems in need of a rewrite)

• 1987 Super Channel launched
• 1993 Acquired by NBC and becomes NBC Super Channel
• 1996 Rebranded NBC Europe
• 1998 NBC Europe in all territories except Germany closed, being replaced by National Geographic Channel[1]. The german network continues , becoming a german language station with transfer of American programming to CNBC Europe
• 29 September 2005 NBC Europe closed in favour of Das Vierte (in German) and GIGA Television (which had been a programming strand on NBC Europe)

I believe GIGA already existed seperately from NBC Europe on -digital- satellite before September this year - Germany's continued use of both forms causes confusion here :) --Kiand 14:23, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Discussion

Speaking as the person who created the article in the first place, I have no objections in renaming it to it's more modern name as long as the bit about Super Channel is preserved, and that Super Channel becomes a redirect to the new name of the page, and that the bit about the unrelated former Canadian service is adjusted to take the new article-title into account.

but NBC Europe (a redirect to Super Channel) has a page history.

The only page-history is the changing of the type of redirect, so it does not matter about overwriting the history. Ae-a 16:54, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

NBC Europe's Owner

I changed the ownership info back to "General Electric." The primary pan-European service known as NBC Europe (the subject of 99% of this entry) ceased broadcasting in 1998, when it was still owned by GE. The fact that a minor German spin-off channel also known as NBC Europe was, for a short time, owned by NBC Universal is hardly significant.

NBC Channel?
