Andalusian Mosque → Mosque of the Andalusians – Almost the same name, but arguably a little more desirable for a few reasons:

1. "Andalusian Mosque" is a legitimate title (it's given in some online sources cited here) but the literal meaning of the name is also ambiguous with any mosque that is "Andalusian", and for general readers "Andalusian" is already a vague word with multiple potential meanings, so it's not the best fit for WP:PRECISE.
2. "Mosque of the Andalusians" is a more direct translation of the Arabic name (Jama' al-Andalussiyyin) and the French name (Mosquée des Andalous), from which the English name was essentially just translated (sometimes the French name is still used even in guidebooks). This also has the benefit of making the name's origin and etymology more immediately transparent to readers.
3. There are few reliable English-lanugage sources about this mosque and so there's not much to compare with, but the recent book "Architecture of the Islamic West: North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula, 700-1800" by Jonathan Bloom calls it both the "Andalusiyyin Mosque" (which is equivalent to the transliteration used for the "al-Qarawiyyin" mosque's page) and the "Mosque of the Andalusians"; either one I think is appropriate, but the latter is easier to understand for English readers. This is practically the only published English-language overview on Islamic architecture of this region, by a well-respected scholar versed on the wider topic, so I'd suggest that this is one of the most reliable English sources to consult and compare with.

So in sum: this isn't much of a difference from the current name, so I don't see any reason for it to be controversial, but this particular formulation is simply a little more precise and slightly more accurate all things considered. R Prazeres (talk) 19:37, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

• Support In its current form is not only an inaccurate translation, but its possessive form is also confusing. "Mosque of the Andalusians" seems the preferred name in several authoritative works, e.g. Al-Andalus: Art of Islamic Spain edited by J.D. Dodds, (p.249), Dictionary of Islamic Architecture by A.
