editCan anyone explain where the name Moose Factory was derived? I'd hate to consider that people think that moose are manufactured there.137.94.80.118 17:28, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- I visited Moose Factory last year. The guide explained the origin of the name. The Island was a trading post for the Hudson Bay Company and their senior agent there was titled a "factor". I looked that up in the dictionary and one of the definitions was a business agent, particularly for a company from another country. His area of charge was then known as a "factory".
Is there a way to show that there are two governments on this island? It shows government as local services board but that only covers some off reserve portions of the island. The Moose Cree First Nation is the government for much of the island. The local services board is a very limited form of government, not really a municipality. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.25.180.135 (talk) 02:38, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Done. See intro. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 18:09, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I changed it a little to make it more clear. I also added the federal, provincial as well as municipal levels of government. Additionally, I created a separate subtitle for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendancull (talk • contribs) 17:34, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Moose Factory Island
editWhat do you think of creating Moose Factory Island and moving the contents of this article into it, with headings like 'History', 'Geography', 'Community' etc?--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see why this is necessary..vıdıoman 01:30, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- If I create Moose Factory Island, it will be a very short article, and would include a link here. I just thought it should be the other way around. What do you think about that?--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:05, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Article created. It focuses on the physical aspects of the island. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 18:09, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Hospital on an island in Ontario
editThe article makes the claim that "Weeneebayko General Hospital is also the only island hospital in Ontario" which is not true, see for example Matthews Memorial Hospital on St Joseph's Island and Manitoulin Health Centre on Manitoulin Island. There may be more examples but those are two that came to mind. SoftwareSimian (talk) 01:21, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- I removed that statement. Not sourced anyway. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 14:51, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
