Some questions

Some questions I had going through this article: Shouldn't this article be named "Midwifery in Mayan Society?" How do Mayan midwives actually gain training? Is it through experience, or do they learn from their superiors, for example? The article implies that its information is specific to Guatemala, is this true? Is there some more practical information about these practices, such as how many Mayan women are midwives, how many women do not use traditional midwives, how midwifery fits into the larger Mayan religion, where exactly it is practiced, and what tools they use? --Ships at a Distance (talk) 22:19, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Re the title, most of our Maya-related articles in wiki follow the common convention seen in the scholarly literature, where "Maya" is used for the both the nominal (singular and plural) and adjectival forms. The exception is when talking about languages, where "Mayan" can be used, again following a common practice observed in linguistics literature. But for other fields—archaeology, ethnohistory, etc—the "Mayan" form is usually, tho' not always, avoided. I realise that the text of this article itself doesn't always follow this convention, but for consistency it probably should.--cjllw ʘ TALK 01:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Saint Anne ?
