editThe Geraghty family is a rather old family here in Fairbanks. Quite a bit has been written about them over the years in RS, but not necessarily in anything which is easy to find. For example, the Pioneers of Alaska, and/or their local chapters, regularly publishes historical research, usually compiled by members, for members and about members. You can find the stuff in local libraries. Whether or not any of it can be Googled is hard to say.
Michael's Geraghty's oldest son died last week. According to the obituary, Geraghty is related (Cousins? That wasn't clear.) to John Vallentine, who along with Cindy Suryan (Miss Alaska 1975) were the top television news team in Anchorage during a good portion of the 1980s at KIMO (clip here), until they were effectively knocked off that spot by John Tracy and Maria Downey of KTUU. Vallentine also worked at a number of larger markets in the Lower 48 (Milwaukee and Phoenix come to mind, but I couldn't begin to tell you at which stations). - He also graduated from Lathrop High School in 1970. Other notables in that same Lathrop class include Cathy Giessel and Jerry Cleworth (current Fairbanks mayor). RadioKAOS – Talk to me, Billy 03:35, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
