Proposed merger of Baja Prog here
editIt has been proposed that Baja Prog be merged here.
Oppose. This progressive rock festival is fairly well known within progressive rock circles. The Baja Prog article should be expanded with more information on who has performed there. But none of this would be of any interest to the typical reader of this article on Mexicali. Varlaam (talk) 02:07, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Strong oppose - The festival is merely held in Mexicali and aside from that has little to do with the city itself. It would only be suitable for the article to be mentioned, but not merged, into Mexicali. 08OceanBeachS.D. 18:50, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Mexicali Valley
editMexicali is not located in the "salton valley". http://www.e-local.gob.mx/work/templates/enciclo/bajacalifornia/municipios/02002a.htm
- The Salton Valley, aka Salton Sink, Salton Trough, Salton Basin, is the drainage basin of the Salton Sea and it comprises areas of Coachella Valley, Imperial Valley, and Mexicali Valley. This map illustrates my point, as do the older maps on this page. There are numerous sources, all it takes to find them is a Google search. 08OceanBeachS.D. 21:15, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Read your own source. "The area south of the border is known as the Mexicali Valley". And no, wikipedia cannot be used as your source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.248.5.2 (talk) 01:24, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- I have read the source. The Salton Valley comprises parts of all three valleys. This includes the Mexicali Valley. Mexicali lies within the drainage basin of the Salton Sea and thus is in the valley. I do not need Wikipedia to prove this. There are a multitude of sources. 08OceanBeachS.D. 18:42, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Have you even ever been to the city? stop the salton sea thing. SOUTH OF THE BORDER IS THE MEXICALI VALLEY. also, the distance to san diego or any other city is irrelevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.222.231.182 (talk) 19:02, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- A city is a city. A border crossing is a border crossing. The two are not coterminous. The East Calexico Port of Entry and Andrade Port of Entry are the only border crossings that should be in that category. Geographic location is also of interest to any reader and thus should be in the intro. I will admit I confused my terms. The Salton Sink is within the Salton Trough. However, Mexicali is within the Salton Trough. 08OceanBeachS.D. 19:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Did you see the link I provided? The border crossing is as much part of the city as its geography. If Mexicali is not considered a border crossing then why is Tecate in that category? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.222.231.182 (talk) 19:37, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Tecate should not be in that category either. Only ports of entry or border crossings, but not cities. 08OceanBeachS.D. 19:41, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
But some cities became such precisely because they grew from border crossings. This isn't the case but have the crossing didn't hurt matters — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.222.231.182 (talk) 19:48, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- That is regardless to the fact that a city is not a border crossing, but a city. Cities have border crossings though they are not the border crossing. When the respective ports of entry articles already exist, it becomes even less understandable to list Mexicali as a border crossing. 08OceanBeachS.D. 20:10, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
PHWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET Semantics foul. Let's get a definition of "border crossing", shall we? DS (talk) 12:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
IPA for "Mexicali" (in Spanish)
editMexicali definitely is [mexi'kali] in IPA. I'm from Mexicali and don't know a single local who pronounces it as [mehi'kali] or anything else. Whoever wrote [mehi'kali] probably is confused because "Wikipedia:IPA for Spanish" says "[x] is pronounced [h] in many dialects, in Andalusia, Canary Islands, and most of Latin America; like ham." Lamentably this is false for Mexicali, or most of Mexico. 187.176.199.79 (talk) 19:04, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

I recently created the disambiguation page, FEX, and I found numerous articles referencing a Palenque del FEX, which appears to be in Mexicali. Is this something worth having an article on? bd2412 T 22:50, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
