Title
editThe article's currently at "Mercian treasure", which is an odd name. The BBC refers to it as the "Staffordshire Hoard", as do most other news sources, and there's no firm information on the provenance of the material as from Mercia. ("Mercian treasure" could also, I suppose, refer to other treasure from the kingdom...)
Given this, should it be moved to the more common name of "Staffordshire Hoard"? Shimgray | talk | 16:10, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- ...which redirects to 2009 Anglo-Saxon hoard discovery. Tagged for merging accordingly. Shimgray | talk | 16:12, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
I agree the articles should be merged, but 'Staffordshire Hoard' is a better title than either 'Mercian Treasure' or '2009 Anglo-Saxon hoard discovery'. Remember that to go direct to an article the title must be entered exactly. Entering '2009 Anglo-Saxon hoard' and clicking 'Go' does not find an article with the title '2009 Anglo-Saxon hoard' and '2009 Anglo-Saxon hoard discovery' does not appear in the first 20 articles found. treesmill (talk) 17:25, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- It does now - I set up a redirect (easy to do). The issue of the title is also under discussion on that article's talk page. I think there is a rapidly developing consensus that the articles should be merged, and that the best title is likely to be Staffordshire hoard - I think guidance would be that the word "hoard" should not be capitalised.
