Children and young adults

However, there are some people out there who have difficulty with these kind of skills and behaving like an average person. This is most likely the cause of having a mental illness.

"behaving" should be changed with "behave"

I added a very important factor to the recent strides towards combating mental health and understanding it more intently. Etiology?

edit

I noticed there is no section on etiology, which is interesting because there is a section on treatment: and etiology has a direct bearing on how you treat an individual (and vice-versa; how you treat someone is based on what you think the problem is). So, hopefully, etiology becomes its own section. A good place to start is buddhist-philosophy: where the human condition is one of suffering-- how we redeem ourselves, endure, cope, become mental health 'treatments'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr Robot 2020 (talkcontribs) 03:55, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Essay-like writing

edit

This article is in dire need of copyediting for tone. There are many sentences like "Living with a mental disorder is never easy, so it's always important to have people around to make the days a little easier" which are clearly unencyclopedic in tone. This is what an essay or a blog entry looks like, not an encyclopedia. The first paragraph of "Emotional improvement" even mentions the reader directly no less than 6 times and tells them what they should and should not be doing rather than just describing things as they are.--Megaman en m (talk) 13:33, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Creating new articles to make the current article smaller

edit

There is so much material written about each country that the topic of mental health is too much for a single article. I suggest making global prevelance of mental health, have seperate articles for mental health in each country (much like covid-19 pandemic has articles for each country, seperately), rather than have all that material on this article. Is anyone in agreement?Mr Robot 2020 (talk) 02:45, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I propose that sections on "social work in mental health" and "global prevalence#countries" be moved to their own articles.Mr Robot 2020 (talk) 04:38, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for proposing this and carrying out much of the work. If no one objects in the next few weeks, I might also make a seperate article for Mental health policy in the United States and move over the current content on that sub topic. As well as freeing up space for further expansion, this would be a major step towards removing the unsightly globalise tag. FeydHuxtable (talk) 09:20, 25 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Simply Combine USA and Canada information together and combine each individual country up in South America. The information is already in Wikipedia. It is limited in South America Countries and oftentimes leads to WHO

edit

I have contacted WHO to see if they could fix some problems. For example, when you click on the Americas it brings you to Pan America and I could not find any mention of the ones I know exist in America and Canada.

Article update

edit

Hello everyone, I am a part of a Wikipedia editing course. I have chosen this particular article to work on and improve. Looking forward to the fellow editors suggestions and guidance. I’ll be making certain changes as per the outline below.

General plan - To make it more concise, change the general language to that of an encyclopedia and add citations.

Lead - include summary of the topic. Paraphrase.

Mental Health and Mental Illness - Define each, add categories with appropriate citations and links.

Factors affecting mental health - make it concise

Treatment - add new subheading - add - protection, promotion, care, therapies- subheadings under this. Add a “standard tests” section.

Specialities - rename "occupation" to this Add more specialities.

Demographics - Make it concise. Move the “culture” part as a subheading. Remove immigrants part.

History - make it concise.

Society and culture - add this subheading

Global prevalence - make it concise

Laws and policies - new subheading - include general laws and policies applicable to many countries.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions or advice on the above outline. Looking forward to contributing with everyone.Thank you. Shris26 (talk) 10:30, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just want to say thank you for working to improve this page. I hope your edits lead to a greater understanding and clarity of this topic and help me understand life and how to cope within it. Thanks. Mr Robot 2020 (talk) 00:54, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Stigma

edit

Hello, there was a whole section on stigma under the 'children and adolescent- demographics' part. I have removed it as Stigma appies to a broader age group of population and thus it should have a subheading of its own.Feel free to add citations if discovered. Thank you Shris26 (talk) 19:59, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Peer review

edit
Mental health and mental disorders - Very well edited. Language is neutral.
History - Can be shortened. The Deinstitutionalization and transinstitutionalization only probably talks about a certain state/country so it is really required?
Epidemiology - Last paragraph doesn't really talk about epidemiology so maybe move it to a subtopic more suitable?
Global prevalence - Needs to be completely edited as it doesn't talk about global prevalence at all.
Demographics - Maybe also add what kind of mental disorder is the group more susceptible to.
Mental health and occupations - Maybe talk about the role of psychiatrists and psychologists?
Factors affecting mental health - The economic factors is well written but I feel it could be edited to make it concise. Also Stress is an important factor and should be talked more about. Also other factors like age, gender, occupation, etc and what subgroups are more susceptible to mental health problems. Maybe add how social media affects mental health?
Mental health protection and promotion - All points seem to be covered
Promoting and improving mental health - This section is well written and I believe it talks about all the major factors under appropriate subtopics.
Policies - Too detailed and only talks about the United states

Overall a really good article.JanD20 (talk) 13:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Academic Project Article

edit

In order to expand upon the knowledge conveyed in this article, I would like to create a separate article on the topic of Mental Health for Asian Americans. I would create this article for an academic project for a class at Rice University called Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities. Mental health tends to be a very stigmatized topic in Asian American communities. This lack of conversation regarding mental health has created high rates of depression and anxiety. I therefore feel that having a Wikipedia page on mental health directed specifically to this community would be very beneficial. 23:47, 13 September 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neha576 (talkcontribs)

Article Update (Revision Proposal) or New Article Creation

edit

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of creating a new article on the Social Determinants of Mental Health, especially due to the increasing attention and body of research being produced in this field. However, I wanted feedback on whether you all think it would be better to revise the "Factors affecting mental health section" instead. The Wikipedia articles "Social Determinants of Health", "Social Determinants of Obesity", and "Social Determinants of Health in Poverty" already exist, so I was intending to structure this new article in a similar format.

Looking forward to suggestions and feedback on how to proceed. Psg2022 (talk) 21:25, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone,

I am reaching out because I am creating a new wikipedia article under this parent article titled "Mental Health of Asian Americans". I am structuring it similarly to the "Mental Health of Filipino Americans" page. I would love some feedback on important aspects to include that allow me to highlight the unique challenges faced by this minority population. I am using research papers and studies previously conducted in order to create my article. Looking forward to any feedback you may have. Thank you. Neha576 (talk) 01:37, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

It was low quality and speculation from lab research. As a human health topic, sources for the article need to comply with WP:MEDRS. Zefr (talk) 02:51, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Updated Link Article

edit

Hello all. Was perusing this article and found a quite outdated link to an article about COVID-19, and wanted to bring it to your attention. It's source [127] from a student housing website.

I found a great quote regarding this specific topic (social media and mental health) from Dr. Igor Pantic, a PhD with the Institute of Medical Physiology at the University of Belgrade, if it's helpful:

“It seems that when social networks and the Internet in general are used to strengthen and maintain social ties, particularly within family members and close friends, the resulting social support has beneficial effects on mental health. On the other hand, extensive use of social networking sites outside these circles might weaken existing close family and friend interactions and increase feelings of loneliness and depression.”

Here's the link to the article as well: https://clearbehavioralhealth.com/social-media-your-mental-health/

thank you. hope this helps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClearBehavioralHealth (talkcontribs) 17:36, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
