Hello, my name is Ashley and I am updating this page as part of the Vespidae Wiki Project and as part of a Behavioral Ecology course at Washington University. I have added many more sections on the species and more details to what was already on the page. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know! Your article was thorough and I like how you were able to include so many photos and synonyms! You also linked to a lot of other articles which helps for a reader to gain a greater understanding of the topics discussed and the species overall. Your section on nest structure was very detailed and species-specific. I like how much you included here. I think your Defense section could use some expansion. Are there any other defensive behaviors that this wasp displays? In your Parasites and pathogens section, I do not think it is necessary for you to include the first sentence that this is “not a lot of information on parasites and pathogens of D. media.” This just does not add to your article. I really like how you discussed Haplodiploidy in your article. It is very interesting and unique to your species. Overall great job! I really liked your article. Hey Ashley! Great article; it is super in-depth and easy to understand! Most of the changes I made were grammatical changes and minor re-wording. I would encourage you to expand you introduction section to include a summary of each section; perhaps adding a sentence about each section would help! I added some hyperlinks to your page and would advise you to continue doing so! In your Curling section, I think you need to explicitly define what curling is immediately so that the reader can understand this unique behavior. In addition, I would encourage you to further develop your Taxonomy section and explain where your species fits within the Vespidae family. In order to further improve you article, I think it is important to explain their diet and how they collect food. In your behavior section, you have a foraging subsection, but that focuses mainly on nest building and logistics of foraging, rather than what they are foraging for. Adding a diet section would supplement our understanding of the species. To that end, I was very interested in your discussion of the fungus parasite that attacks the species. I was wondering if there was any information on the defense mechanisms that the species has to combat this fungus. Overall, this is a very well thought out and nicely constructed piece! Nice job with this article. It was very detailed and thorough. Your overview provided a nice summary of the topics to be discussed. I added some links to other pages to integrate your page into Wikipedia more although you did a pretty good job of this already. You could add a little more information describing the wasp family that this wasp belongs to. You mention the family only briefly in the taxonomy and phylogeny section. I made some minor grammatical changes to improve the flow of the article but your grammar was already very good. There was a sentence describing nests that I moved from the description and identification section to the distribution and habitat section since it seemed out of place. Your colony cycle section had a nice amount of detail. You could cite sources more often. There are many sentences throughout the article that state specific facts but don't include citations. One example of this is a chunk of factual sentences in the middle of the colony cycle section. The foraging section had some interesting facts, 7 degrees is quite cold. You could be a bit clearer when explaining the defensive behavior the queen exhibits by grabbing other insects crawling on the nest and dropping to the ground. Why does the queen fall to the ground? If the other insects aren't a threat to the nest then why bother? I also changed the decimals to percents since I though it was better visually. The parasites and pathogens section was also very interesting. Overall you did a very good job with this article. Good work! nef614 (talk) 21:08, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your article was impressively thorough. I appreciated your use of more that the one required image of this wasp— it made the article much more interesting. Are there any instances of worker policing documented in D. media? If a source can be found, that would be an interesting section to include. Kellykries (talk) 02:31, 19 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The wasp of the picture of taxobox is probably a Vespula but is not a D. media (Habitus). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:CB08:2F1:4B00:68FD:44C3:EB28:6A4 (talk) 21:44, 15 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
