Erich Wasicky

This is not a correction or addition, but a small bit of trivia on the execution of Erich Wasicky.

The orders were given for him to be hanged on 27 May, 1947. He was hanged on 28 May 1947.

The reason for this is that his birthday was on 27 May and he asked my uncle, the assistant commandant at Landsberg if it was possible, he thought a hangmans noose was not a very good birthday present.

My uncle granted his wish and delayed it until the next day.

My uncle had befriended Wasicky and had many conversations with him. He provided him some pencils and crayons and paper and Waiscky made several cartoons depicting life at the prison. He gave them to my uncle and they are still in his posession.

They may be included in a book written about his assignment at Landsberg.

Wasicky's execution was the only prisoner he did not accompany to the gallows and read the last statements. He was too close to Wasicky and instead watched from a window. He said Wasicky looked all around for someone. He knew he was looking for him. My uncle is still living at this date.

Providing More Information

I've noticed that this article is informative, yet could use some more information providing detail and context to what the trials are. I plan to add information such as events leading up to the trial. I.e. how the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union were pressured with overwhelming evidence to convict those involved at the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp. There are also a few spelling errors with the chemical 'Zyklon B'. The author I am referring to has been used in the article already. Dr. Jardim provides an excellent secondary source. Graduating with a BA in History, specializing in modern Germany, the Holocaust, and the World Wars while receiving multiple awards for his work. This looks promising, but the information you provide is rather scant. For instance, where are you going to add this information - a new section in the article? And you write that you'll add info on "events leading up to the trial" - what events? Right now the only concrete statement you make is about the Allies being pressured to convict (and even then not clear who pressured them). More details would help. Finally, not sure a BA in History is an indication of author's trustworthiness. Holding a position at a university is far better evidence.Chapmansh (talk) 22:05, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Just to be precise: Mauthausen is situated in Upper Austria (Oberösterreich). However, at the time of the concentration camp of Mauthausen-Gusen this province had been named Oberdonau, which would be Upper Danube in English. Mauthausen Trial → Mauthausen concentration camp trials – The related article Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp has been renamed to Mauthausen concentration camp, per Feb 2020 RM discussion at Talk:Mauthausen_concentration_camp#Name, so I suggest that this article should be renamed likewise. This article refers to multiple trials, so the page name should use plural "trials".
